does anyone see this as the start of a trend? bands/singers get chummy with Apple and get their own SE iPod? Sure we might not see them very frequently but I doubt this will be the last SE iPod we see.

SUB-QUESTION

if you could have any Special Edition iPod, who would it be?

The standard iPod is now a cash cow. In order to continue growing revenue--because the market will evenually catch up--Apple has to do things like the HP and U2 iPods to spark interest.

I'm sure we'll see many more.

Hopefully, there won't be too many. That'll dilute the "specialness" of it, though I still think a black U2Pod Mini would have been much cooler.

I'm waiting for the Ashlee Simpson edition.

You hit the button to play her song "Autobiography", and instead it plays the beginning of "Pieces of Me". Also comes preloaded with the entire Milli Vanilli library.

Oh, COME ON. Journey defined music in the 80's. There hasn't been one retro article I've EVER read that doesn't mention Journey.

I almost booked the Journey/Styx/REO cruise this year. Might do it next year. It is thru Carnival (not my favorit cruise line), but would have been a kick ass time with all the concerts!

My friends and I were going to see them this year but without Perry, it's not the same. Augleri (sp?) is nothing more than a cheap knock-off.

I suspect that all this legal wrangling between Apple and the Beatles will result in some sort of financial payoff and Apple getting exclusive rights to the Beatles catalog for a period of time, and (of course) a Beatles edition iPod. Which would be very cool, if they could do a patterned case like the old Flower Power iMacs. Something Pop and surrealistic like the images in "Yellow Submarine."

i agree with you.
That way britney n christina can have pink ones with their autographs engraved, etc.... it would attract the right demographic as well.

I'd like to see custom miniPod SEs, for the following musicians, with alums preloaded:
-The Rolling Stones
-The Beatles (hopefully in the works since the settlement is probably in it's final stages)
-Bruce Springsteen
-Bob Dylan
-Jimi Hendrix
-Beathoven
-Led Zepplin
-R.E.M.

Also...it might be cool to have some special editions of Writers and have the audio books preloaded on the pods....the likes of
-Steinbeck
-Tolkein
-Dickens
-Austin
Although, i think id prefer reading the books.
