The Apple for Disney's Eye

Walt Disney is now searching for a successor to CEO Michael Eisner, and its directors couldn't do better than to go all out to tap Steve Jobs, cofounder and CEO of Apple Computer and CEO of Pixar. Jobs knows high tech, Hollywood and finances as few Hollywood moguls do, and he knows the critical importance of creativity. Jobs' understanding of technology would be crucial. The music industry hurt itself for years by making it impossible to download music legally off the Web. Apple's iTunes service was the right response. Jobs understands that when we get true broadband in this country, the Internet will radically change radio and TV broadcasting, just as it's already changing telephony and the distribution of music and videos.

What about Apple Computer? Despite last summer's cancer surgery (a success), Jobs remains enormously creative and energetic. He could still head Disney and be, as he is now, Apple's guiding spirit. Walt Disney himself was an artistic genius. The Disney company needs that kind of vision again. Steve Jobs can provide it.

I would LOVE that.

And, I'd start taking the family to Disney theme parks again.

Right now we're boycotting them (a LOT of Floridians DESPISE Eisner and the crap he pulls in Florida) and we won't go to a Disney park or event.

While its a cool idea, I'm sure 90% of people here would agree with Steve Jobs being CEO of any company suggested.

Except Microsoft.

Or Dell.

Running Disney's is a full-time job.

I, for one, is not ready to let go Steve from Apple. Steve's job at Apple is not done yet!!

As much as Steve loves the spotlight, there will much more political power play in Disney's than in Apple or in Pixar. I give it a 1-to-5 odds that Steve will take it if he is offered the job.

bingo .. you beat me to it. he's stretched thin as it is. people already complain about him running both apple and pixar. if nothing else, pixar should grow as a company first ... and eventually buy out disney .. i'd be for that idea over the tri ceo dealie people are suggesting...

Steve would probably remain on the board of directors at Apple but could resign as CEO and run Pixar under the helm of Disney. That would be manageable for him.

Delegate, delegate, delegate that is the mark of a good leader. Find people you trust and let them run the show. That is what he does at Pixar. From what I understand doesn't Lasseter or someone actually run the day to day stuff?

Also Jobs has many good people he trusts at apple that he delegates things to. So I think he would do the same at Disney if he ran it. That company sure needs someone with Vison like Jobs.

Pixar grow as a company? I thought they had and have. With "The Incredibles" just around the corner I think it will keep them perfect in releases. They are doing so well right now that they probably wouldn't need to partner up with anyone else and could probably get the "George Lucas deal". But that problem of who pixar would go with would be and could be solved if Jobs was head of Disney.

Steve delegates? Not what I have heard about him. He is very a detail-oriented CEO.

Pixar is a different type of the company, which is a Lasseter's vision artistically more than Job's vision.

To run a big company like Disney's, which also owns ABC, you need more organizational skills than vision. And you need to please the shareholder constantly and fast, otherwise the fate of the new CEO will be sealed like Eisner.

Even Steve would not be able to save Disney from the crappy company it is now. I hope he stays as is and continues to focus on Apple and Pixar. Pixar _is_ the new Disney.

Report #1, from Orlando, Florida:

A new giant structure is reported under construction in the Orlando's Disney's World. The structure is near 20 stories high, and covers 4 acres. Rumor has it that it is a new Disney's ride involving Pixar's new movie, the Monster Trucks. However, the insider believes it is a statue of the new company CEO Steve Jobs. Disney's spokesperson declines to comment, but warns the reports against using the aerial surveillance on the region, and promises legal action against anyone prying into the walled area.

Report #2, from Los Angeles, California:

ABC Networks today announces a new show originating from Disney's (ABC's parent company) new CEO Steve Job's idea to be aired at next Thursday primetime. The format and the stars of the show are not announced at the conference. When pressed by the reporter, the ABC networks' spokesperson declines to comment on the both, simply stating it will be a super hit for the Networks. The rumor has it that the show is about Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in a reality show settings. Both persons are rumored to net more than 2 million dollars per episode. Steve Jobs says this will be transforming the reality show once for all, but declines to say anything further. Viewers are anxiously waiting for the new show with a fanfare. A long line of fans has formed outside of the Apple Store at the Grove, Los Angeles to watch the show's premier in the big screen. The first person in line, John Doe, says that he does not care who is in the show or how bad the show is; he will be staying in line for next 7 days as long as the show is produced under Steve's realm.
