I was hoping for more "wow" features, honestly.

There are quite a few places where the iPod can improve in terms of music, and Apple of all companies does this. They could innovate and make the iPod an even better musical device, and yet they spend their R&D on a a color screen for photographs....that...lets be honest not too many people will use.
what music-related improvements could they have possibly made ?....
Off the top of my head:
-built in audio recording (think of college students recording lecteurs or using it to lay down their bands music, etc)
-built in FM radio(not that id ever use this feature...but it is a music related feature)
-EQUALIZER
someone mentioned AirPort Express compatibility.... kinda hard to imagine.....if you have it plugged into your computer you could do it. BUT if the iPod could do it as a stand alone device..... it becomes a truely portable music collection.....it would function as a remote control for itself while the music is on it. wow .... that just blew my mind.
Essentially..... you could have a state of the art speaker system hooked up to Airport extreme, with your iPod in your pocket anywhere in your house...instantly being able to choose what music you listen to, without having to goto another room or point your iPod to a stereo system. And its all digital.....build in equalizer capabilities into the iPod and your all set.
The Photo capabilities are alright...but seem more like a gimmick right now. id lik to see more features added t the iPod as far as music goes. i cant afford a BMW to take afvantage of the work apple hes done with them, and im not getting airport express without the above features available.
Something tells me theyre working on it as we speak....
Cheers.

I would be happy if we could just minimize the gap.

Keep iPod focussed, forget recorders, FM recievers etc. sharp focus is its strength.

agreed on the radio tuner. i'm sure that could be integrated for next to nothing. no fancy technology there.

radio tuner ? Do you mean those FM transmitters ?
In that case: Wrong.
In many countries, the radio tuner is illegal.
That would make the iPod impossible to sell.
Plus, the quality is bad, far worse than tape adapters. Why would Apple settle for a mediocre solution ?

Sorry Mihous, I feel that radio recievers should be ditched.
The iPod is beautifully focussed and simple in defining the niche it has filled. It is soo smooth in function, esthetics and conceptuality.
That is precisly why NOTHING else can touch it and why even people on modest incomes will hold out to buy it.
Keep iPod focussed. Keep it high capacity, keep it minimilist externally, keep the colours schemes simple,
Maybe add 1 one other thing- direct download from iTunes Store via AE.
