Since the release of the iPod Photo and the price drop on iBooks, the prices of both are getting closer.
The top iPod is priced at £429 and the base iBook at £749 (in the UK)
That is only a difference of £320.
I know we are not comparing the same thing, but you do seem to get a lot for your £320!!
I know the cost of the iPod 60GB drive will be what is pushing the iPod price up, but in terms of value for money the iBook looks fantastic.
The rest on the contents of the iPod must cost very little compared to the same bits in the iBook. I'm thinking - Screens, Keyboard/Click Wheel, Ports, Main circuit board, processor, Combi Drive, etc.
Just my thoughts.

You make a good point. i think I'll get my friends to ditch their iBooks in favor of an iPod.
Honestly though, the iBook is a very nicely priced laptop, while the iPod photo appear to be a bit high priced. I mean, if I was buying an iPod that did photos, why would I want to spend another $100 for an addon product (not released by apple) to suck photos off of my camera and onto my iPod when I'm on a trip. At that price, I could buy an iBook and take it with me. You know, plus I could play games and stuff.
The Photo iPod is a good idea, but really, shouldn't it have a built in compact flash or SD card reader on it?

iPod Photo is not espensive because it does some stff an ibook can do (but not as well)
it's expensive because it's small and can still do that stuff
Having said that, iPod 20BG is $299. Which I think is not too shabby.

Good point Parky. If you are willing to get a refurb (which I have never had a problem with) you can get a full feature laptop for just a couple hundred more than the photo ipod (which I was considering buying in the cooming year)
I agree that the big hard drive is a factor in the ipod, but the photo ipod is pretty pricey. I like it, but pricey. I'll have to really think about this one....

I have ordered a 60GB iPod photo anyway.
I'm not complaining abut the price, I just wonder how much closer the iPod and iBook prices can get without the price of the iPod looking really silly.
