His doctors tell us that his blood platelet count has dropped dramatically, but that he does not have leukemia. These symptoms sound remarkably AIDS-like, don't they? An AIDS diagnosis would certainly accord with what is widely known about Arafat's personal way of life.

As a doctor, I can categorically state that a drop in platelets is NOT from AIDS. HIV causes a certain type of white blood cell (CD4 cell type, to be exact) to drop, NOT platelets.
Reports of Arafat's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Also, the full quote (from the same article):
He has suffered a dramatic weight loss, memory loss and periods of disorientation, loss of muscle control and recurring nausea. His doctors tell us that his blood platelet count has dropped dramatically, but that he does not have leukemia. These symptoms sound remarkably AIDS-like, don't they?
"Dramatic weight loss, memory loss and periods of disorientation, loss of muscle control and recurring nausea" can be due to ANY NUMBER OF ILLNESSES (such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, other chronic illnesses when they reach the end-stages, etc). He could have a combination of illnesses (highly likely given his age, since most older people tend to have many illnesses), such that the drop in platelets may or may not be related to the other symptoms. Again, AIDS does NOT affect platelets!

I don't know, implying someone has AIDS implies that they might be gay, which of course means that they're a bad person, and if we want to discredit them... making them out to be gay is a great way... I mean... who cares about facts... he was probably gay! That drops all his credibility, everyone knows gay people have no credibility!
(I will shoot someone if anyone pretends I was being serious.)

I don't give a crap if he's gay or not. If he is gay, he probably contracted the disease from some fling with a horny chimpanzee or possibly an unusually randy goat.
The main issue here is that he is a murdering, lowlife, terrorist thug, and it is only a matter of time until the old geezer is six feet under.
