The Incredibles looks amazing, but their followup? Ummm. Not so sure.

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/cars/

Graphics look plasticy, don't they? I'll obviously keep an open mind since Pixar's record so far has been, well, incredible. This one seems different though...

Yeah, it didn't look that great to me either. It might be the first "kiddie" Pixar movie. Although I thought the same about Nemo and was pleasantly surprised.

From seeing that, I could care less about this movie. If I were Pixar, I would consider scrapping the project and doing something else. Maintaining a good reputation is more important than a one-time loss.
Genius. You know who.

Hopefully it's just a bad representation of what the real movie will be, and hopefully they're still working on the animation and this is more of a work in progress.

It would be really hard to believe that Pixar could get it SO wrong (judging from the very little we see from this trailer) after doing it right so many times before.

My guess/ hope is that it's just the trailer that's not very good.

Looks like the classic Pixar art style. Trailer was a bit boring—I have no possible idea what it could be about, but hey, it was only the first trailer, right? I'll keep an eye on it.

It's odd seeing all this doom and gloom from a trailer and people perceiving an art style as some technical limitation or "bad graphics" or animation. Looks interesting, but I'd like to know more about the flick. Probably hear plenty more about it next year.

They're taking a break. I might break 'em out or whip up some more in celebration of the DS launch.

i kinda like it when pixar/dreamworks goes for a different style(look) of their movies. For example...madagascar(dreamworks) looks absolutely brilliant to me i like the style of it.

As far as cars goes... i appreciate the fact that they are going for a different style n all.... but the whole look just seems very very plastic.... and taffy-looking. I'm sure its difficult to animate cars...theyre pretty inanimate objects if you think about it. but this movie dosent seem like pixars best stuff.

Cheers

For me, it wasn't the art style of the trailer, but the vehicles. They remind me of "Jay Jay the Jet Plane" toys or maybe because the car resembles a talking car from a Chevron gas station commercial.

I still expect it will be as good as the other Pixar movies.

i think the animation looks fine, though it might need some polishing in a few areas of that trailer, but i really can't knock the plot since i have no clue what it is.

Definitely not my type. Talking cars is just too Fisher-Pricey and feel awkward. Cars remind me of 3D talking airplanes animation on TV

No matter how decent the art/animation/story are, it's not going to save the concept. For sure I'll cringe so hard, if I've decided to watch it.

I'm going to skip it altogether.

Ever consider that Pixar is making this movie for a much younger audience? Their other movies were obviously for adults.

Huh?

Their animations were geared for ALL AGES.

Finding Nemo, Monster Inc., A Bug's Life, Toy Stories were obviously for adults?

You must be thinking of Dreamworks' Animations. All of Pixar's previous works was a smash hit for young audience. How is CARS any different this time?

If the movie is not written properly to appeal to adults and children it will fail. Children do not buy movie tickets. Their parents do. Movies popular with the parents make them more popular.

I'm prepared to reserve judgement until next November.

I remember being *quite* unimpressed with the first "Nemo" teaser. Oh boy.

Funny how they snuck those "Pixar" eyeballs in...wierd

..but bottom line....you gotta give them the benefit of the doubt until anything they do suggests otherwise

it does not look as good as the previous films... the textures on the race track don't look all that incredible as ...The Incredibles....

When I saw the sneak preview of the Incredibles, I immediately thought that the movie did not look as funny.

Maybe this is just a bait to see if Dreamworks rushes out a similar movie before the "Cars" release date.

Or, it is the last movie in the deal with Disney, and they want it to 'not be as good' so Pixar's next movie, with it's own distribution, will be better.

Too early to tell. It's just a teaser, in my opinion.

It is definintely Pixar's style. I'm not sure what you are all expecting. I certainly wasn't expecting anything ultra-realistic. Pixar has never gone for that. Ultra-realistic is too boring. It looks fine to me.

Regardless, Pixar's strength is the storytelling - anybody dismissing the movie now is doing themselves a disservice.

BTW, the Chevron cars (the ones in the TV ads) were done by Aardman Animation - makers of Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit.

Talking toys, talking bugs, talking monsters, talking fish, and now talking cars.

Judging how much my little one loves Pixar (Disney) stuff, I'm betting that this one will be equally fun if not BETTER for a lot of young ones.

Thanks for the heads up; already, he's watched the trailer three or four times...

Cheers.

Southern NASCAR families are gonna pee themselves with anticipation when they see that trailer. In fact, NASCAR families everywhere are gonna have about a 90% positive reaction to this film. And that, to put it midly, means BLING.

Me, too. I found Ellen DeGeneres' character (and voice) to be irritating in that teaser, and until I saw the flick in a theater, I thought Nemo would be lackluster.

Cars is written and directed by John Lasseter, so I doubt it would suck since it seems he really stresses story.

Considering Richard Petty is part of the vocal talent, that reaction might hit 100%.

It looks ok. But I remember thinking Ice Age would be bad. I went to see it because friends wanted to go, and I was really surprised. I bought the DVD and watched it many times.

Robots looks like "let's animate Robin WIlliams as a robot", but I'm going to see it - for the same reason I went to see Ice Age - to be pleasantly surprised.

I think everyone is forgetting that the film is a whole year away from projected completion. This is probably the farthest thing you'll see from the completed film.

And it's a friggin teaser. It's not even a formal trailer. Think of it like a techdemo for a game.

Good christ.

Well, I thought Ice Age was mediocre at best. Also, while the reviews were generally favourable, they weren't anywhere near as favourable as any of Pixar's movies.

I was just browsing through MacNN's front page and it seems like USAToday has some more information:

Baby, you can drive Disney/Pixar's 'Cars':

The movie centers on speed-obsessed race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), who gets lost on his way to the track. He lands in Radiator Springs, a downtrodden town off fabled Route 66 that has been bypassed by the interstate. There, he learns about what really matters from the cars of the 1950s and '60s.

Increasingly sophisticated computer technology provides Cars with unparalleled animation, Lasseter says. "The level of detail, the patina on the road, the peeling paint, the dirt — everything looks so real," he says.
