I like to recommend to everyone that if you don't yet own these games I swear they are worth buying the console for. No this is not about GTA.

Many gamers here especially the Nintendo fans have this attitude that you have to be faithful to only one system, which is silly but I used to feel that way also so I know where they are coming from.

PS2:
Ratchet and Clank:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/376/376261p1.html
The first of the series, very impressive visually with tons of background action. Looks as good enough to be running on a gamecube. Moderately hard. Should be under $20 by now.

Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/458/458896p1.html
The followup to the original. Totally awesome. Much changed about the original making it far more weapons and action oriented rather then adventure. This is the only game that I have played though back to front 3 times almost i a row it is that much fun. Cool weapons that upgrade the more you use it, mini games galore. Very very challenging. Rewards you extra weapons if you have the old game. This is one of if not my favorite game ever.

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/561/561352p1.html
Just got it last night, even better then the last two with more action, things exploding, sky diving, tank driving, more weapons, more rewards for having the old game. Very challenging.

The thing that makes this game so great is the impressive attention to detail. So many objects on the screen explode if hit making it a total over the top explosion wiz bang game!

The cut scenes are also one of the few I will watch as they are very well animated and voice acted, plus they are funny. They are not the Zelda cut scenes where a character make 2 different squeak sounds and the rest of the time you mash the A button to dismiss each line of text.

I can't say anything bad about the last 2 releases of this game, it is that good. The graphics look better then anything similar on a GameCube and Up your Arsenal has online support which is supposed to be the best thing out there.

Other games by the same company.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/166/166447p1.html
A very fun game that is very Mario like but 10x better the Super Mario Sunshine. This game is much like the N64 classics of Banjo Kazooie (one of my favs). Very good graphics incredible cut-scenes. No weapons.

Jak II
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/454/454132p1.html
A follow up to the first one. Has a much darker feel to it and GTA, non linear action and cool high powered weapons. Very challenging and the same great level design as Ratchet and Clank.

Jak 3.
Comes out next week and is supposed to be great.

If you don't have a PS2 these games one or all together are totally worth spending the $120 for the console. Try to get over the "I only own one system for the love of whatever". The consoles have gotten so cheap it doesn't matter anymore. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I love Jak and Daxter. Haven't yet tried 2 or 3, but I heard that 3 wasn't all that good as the first one.

That's funny…

I went to Best Buy on Wednesday after work and bought a PS2 and GTA:San Andreas. When I was walking towards the register, the sales guy said I was like the 10th person to buy the system and game that day. It looks like GTA:SA is helping with the sales of the PS2. I was so engrossed with GTA:SA that I called in sick yesterday so I could play some more. I'll have to check out Ratchet and Clank. Thanks.

I have a GameCube and a PS2. My wife bought the PS2, but she plays the GameCube most of the time.

I doubt I'll buy an XBox. I haven't seen anything worth getting. Halo is fun but I've gotten tired of the 3D FPS genre.

True Halo does not sell the Xbox for me but Crimson Skies does. This is another game other then the one I listed above that I have played through 3 times as it is so much fun. Also games that come out on all three systems the xbox one is always the best to get as the graphics are better and it has online support.

You guys are nuts, Halo is the best game ever made (sales prove it) and Halo 2 is going to bring the FPS genre back to life. If any game is worth buying a new console its either Halo.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Yes, they're crazy because they like different games than you. Tell us, do you provide pamphlets full of your wisdom or must I sit staring at the screen...waiting for your next post?

Guess what, the latest console I bought a couple of months ago was... a PS-One... incl. lcd-screen, new for about 90 Euros. Why? I like the old games, f.e. Colin McRae 2 is (still) one of best "feeling" rally game.. all rally games for the ps2 feel if you're just pushing a package of cigarettes over the table...
I'm-a trying to wonder, wonder, wonder why you, wonder, wonder why you act so.

Insomniac and Naughty Dog are most certainly different companies, despite Jak and Ratchet utilizing the same core engine and both houses being published by Sony. Read this month's Official Playstation Magazine for scoops about Jak 3 and Ratchet and Clank 3 and what both companies have to say about each other. The demo disc also offers a playable demo of one and a video of the other.

Another title that was very similar in gameplay to the original Jak and Daxter is Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. It wasn't rated quite as highly, but it was still good enough to warrant a sequel that will be out later. Also, the Sly Cooper games deserve "must buy" honors just as much as Jak and Ratchet and Clank.

Because I can't think of any games on the Xbox that are similar as they don't have to many action adventure games.

Or were you hoping for another reason?

I was going to get GTA & PS2, but that's $230. I wanted it so bad, too!

Hey SWG, does this mean Sony is not being creative and is doomed to fail because they had a sequel?

IGN has their review of Jak 3 up. It and Ratchet and Clank 3 both got a 9.6. I think i'll stick to Ratchet and Clank, though, because i had the first one in the series and loved it. Plus, it's got online play.

Wow, very positive. This is a crazy couple weeks for gaming. I got GTA5, Acecombat 5, Ratchet and clank and in the next week it is Halo 2, Metroid 2, and now Jak 3. I am least excited about halo 2 though.

There are a lot of great GameCube games... I just got Wind Waker recently and it's absolutely worth buying the entire console for. Then you have Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe (if you enjoy being tortured), Super Monkey Ball (more torture), and Soul Calibur. Those are my favorites.

i am still working my way through wind waker. it is amazing. i love it. so worth the price of the console. metroid is a lot of fun, i am not that far into it, but i like it.

i don't think i could every say enough for viewtiful joe. i bought it not knowing much nor expecting much and it is easily one of the most fun games i have played lately. i love it. can't wait for the 2nd one.

i am on the fence about picking up a new ps2.

I beat it 100% with him in his pj's. Did the same for MP…but Samus wasn't in PJ's…although that would be interesting…hmm.

I'm on the fence for a PS2. But at $180, plus the $50 for GTA, that's $230 for one game. Too bad it isn't as cheap as picking up GC+MP.
Besides, I'm broke.

My lord you are an oversensative fanboy aren't you.

IT WAS A COMPLIMENT YOU TURD! I was impressed that the PS2 can look as good as the gamecube even though it is much less sophisticated hardware.

Go to another thread already as you are just in here being sensitive.

FPS genre sucks now. Nothing just sticks out in my mind outside of UT.

You need to rearrange your priorities.

MP is better than WW, and I thought WW kicked ass. Like 9.6/10 good (not on bogus IGN ratings. I rate everything compared to one game: Link to the Past).

MP is about 10/10. The game was incredible. The graphics are well done, and the sound is great. They even brought back a couple old tunes. But combat is the best. How Retro brought Metroid into 3D is incredible. The combat is fast and smooth. Eventually, the enemies will require alot more than blasting. Example: Near the end of the game, the boss is about, I'd say, 5 stories tall. It took about 2 times for me to get it nailed down. He was a tough sonofabitch. But the game's learning curve is about as perfect as they come. It's not like you're playing Icarus or something. And if you get a 100%, the ending is very rewarding.

Second best game I've ever played. Let's hope MP2 holds up to those standards.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

A very fun game that is very Mario like but 10x better than Super Mario Sunshine. This game is much like the N64 classics of Banjo Kazooie (one of my favs). Very good graphics incredible cut-scenes. No weapons.

Jak II

Comes out next week and is supposed to be great.

Thanks for the advice i really liked what i saw from the first one i might need to get that... do you need the first one to understand the plot of the second one?

In a word: yes.

I really don't want to give too much away, but the villain in the first game has a relation to the villain in the second game (remember that ending I was talking about? Scared the **** out a me. I was like "WTF just happened?")

Besides, it gets you familiar to the game and also helps you appreciate all the little things that were improved. Working backwards can make a David seem crap.

FPS genre sucks now. Nothing just sticks out in my mind outside of UT.
UT isn't much of a single player game though. Last great one was Deus Ex IMO.

I think it's bundled with the cube, and comes to a total of $20 if sold alone.
