I'm on the road with my iBook and dot Mac mail is out. I connected to my PowerMac G4 at my dorm via VNC, Mail.app kept asking for my password.

I checked the dot Mac support..

.Mac email is currently unavailable for a small number of .Mac customers. iDisk and web-based services (like HomePage, Backup and iCards) are unaffected.
Looks like I'm under the small number of .Mac users. Anyway, I couldn't check my email since last night... so more than 12hrs of outage?!

Please tell me I'm not alone..

Not alone, and from the looks of the .Mac member support forums, it doesn't seem to be a "small number" of users either.

Call me crazy but I prefer instantly opening an app rather than waiting for a webpage to load to read my messages... Once somebody figures out how to do IMAP from Gmail, then wake me up.

I use spymac mail, works good for me. I've been affected by one outage in the 6 months or so that I've used it. Of course it's free so I don't mind. Yet another reason not to purchase .mac

I do have email a/c from GMail, SpyMac Mail, my own ISPs, and school.. but dot Mac is still my primary email account.

Hope the messages don't get bounce.

I recall that reading something about GMail and IMAP.

Messages do not seem to be bouncing - hopefully they're not just disappearing, that would be the worst-case scenario. If they're all there once .Mac comes back up, I'll be okay.

Join the club. I can no longer use Backup without getting the dreaded "The iDisk server is unreachable" error.

How can Apple seriously expect anyone to pay the price they charge with all the issues that are always affecting .mac?

add me to the "small" list of .mac user effected by this outage. also add me to the list of .mac users wondering why I'm paying this much for service like this. what the F? thankfully I have a work email address I can use remotely, my verizon account and a handy Gmail account. I'd like to just use my paid for .mac account though. silly me huh? argh!

Everything's working fine for me. I guess I'm just lucky, but these outages never seem to affect me.

My main .mac email was down for 24 hours, yet my two other ones were unaffected. This morning, all was okay again.

Funny.

I've had one single .Mac outage over the past year, AFAICR.

'tis probably just because I'm one of the few who gladly pays for the service and DOESN'T constantly bitch about it.

Karma?

Apple stated that mail service is will be back by 3am this morning. Anyway, I never had a single problem with dot Mac before and this was my first.

That's three months later. Pretty good, in my opinion.
