Im getting lots of adds on TV (mostly Phillapino) for whitening deoderant.
I know about whitening toothpaste, but who the hell wants white armpits?

Any idea?

Hmm, after reading the article I'd guess that it's so you don't have to use other creams there.

It seems to be a matter of pride.

Yeah, the Asian Brands seem to make you stink more. (not that I stink).
The Chinese technique is to eat lots of garlic and not brush your teeth, so people don't notice your BO so much.

.... uhh ... what the hell was the point of THIS post? Some people take offense to BS like this.

The point? Only that it's the truth... Chinese deos do make you stink more. Chinese people do eat lots of garlic. And the Chinese in general do have fairly big problems with dental hygiene, or rather the lack thereof.

To the initial poster - as long as something is "meibai", I stopped worrying about finding any kind of logic, rhyme or reason in it a long time ago... I suggest you do the same, to do anything else is too aggravating and may cause permanent brain damage or insanity.

Let me know if it burns. I just read about an African country that uses skin whitening creams (apparently it's the latest craze there) that actually burns your skin off. The country just placed a ban on all products of this type.
US govt to Saddam 2 days before Iraq invaded Kuwait: "We have no opinion on ...conflicts like your border dispute with Kuwait...I have direct instruction from the President... Secretary of State James Baker has directed our official spokesman to emphasize this instruction."

You import your deo? What part of Japan are you in? In Singapore (or anywhere else I've been to in Asia), one just drops into a drug/grocery store/chemist and buy some.

Works quite well, even in humid SE Asia.

Well, that doesn't work so well in Mainland China (he's in Shanghai, as it says under his name )... The only two kinds of deodorant I've ever been able to find here was Fa (which stinks horribly - bought one once out of desperation, never again!) and Adidas Sport something (which are acceptable... I haven't noticed any meibai stuff on it either). Other than that, I've had friends and friends of friends bring me proper deos from Europe when visiting.

Shanghai can't be that behind. I've found deo in Shenzhen and Chengdu. If it's in Chengdu, it must be in Shanghai.

I have noticed that Asians buy cremes and other products to whiten their skin, while Caucasians (American Mainlanders, in particular) go as far as spray-on tans just to get darker.

Kinda' ironic...

That's because in Western culture, a tan denotes an image of a healthy person, while in much of Chinese culture, darker skin brings up the image of a manual laborer, especially close to the equatorial zone, so "whiter" skin is seen as more attractive.

That's the problem with stereotypes. Sometimes, they are TRUE some of the time.

But I thought the British were the ones with bad teeth...
