...we’ll show you how to “play” a movie on an iPod Photo by exporting frames of a movie, importing them to the iPod and playing them manually by click-wheeling through thousands of images, or even viewing 3d views of objects. Pointless? Yes. Will a lot of people try this and put movie trailers and porn on their iPod Photo? You betcha, and as always, we’re here to help.

That's not the point. The iPod is probably fully capable of playing back QT files it's just that Jobs is such an elitist bastard he decided not to impliment it.

No, it's not. This only shows that it is capable of playing pictures in fast succession.

Playing movies has a much greater demand for processing power (decoding) and synchronizing picture and sound.

A .mov file is basically a flip book. When you encode the video you set a frame rate. I'm not saying that it wouldn't take an extra bit of programming. What I'm saying is that Apple purposely left out the ability because they felt nobody needs or wants it. Some of us do.

No, you don't get it.
The compression of a .mov is completely different from compressing a bunch of pics. Of course, you could compress a .mov only with jpg algorythm, but I don't want to know how much space that would take.

This is a simplisitc view of what video really is. Some codecs are frame by frame, but most aren't, and involve a decompression or decoding stage to get the data out of the file and lined up in a viewable stage, taking key frames and filling in the rest to save space. So really, its not just a flip book, its a full on decoding process that the ipod's chip may not be designed for.

I think it's safe to assume that the current iPod chip is NOT designed for it.

They could do it..it'd require some power but its not that big of a deal..they're saving it.,or maybe working on a custom codec for it so its all under thier control

....and so people don't find themselves with video that doesn't play..a la avi's with Quicktime..you just never know because any codec could' ve been used. there'll be one codec only, the video will be very compressed.......and it'll always work.

Steve's not crazy about video...but there's little reason not to do it. People will dig it whether they use it or not.

You're a retard with all your stupid Star Wars aliases. Go put a plastic bag over your head and fart if that floats your boat.

I think it's retarded, too.
You have a problem with that word, or the fact that some folks might think this is a silly/stupid exercise?

Christ, if you need video on the go, buy something else.

You can get a PocketPC for that price range or lower that plays avi's and has a reasonable substitute for iTunes. And it will have a bigger screen.

And if you can't handle annoying posts on the internet, you've got bigger issues than your Steve Jobs conspiracy theories.

Here's a QT movie of the Episode III trailer playing on it. Damn that clicking has to be annoying.

Anyway, it's obvious the iPod Photo can play "video" quite nicely. I wouldn't doubt it if they actually put it in as a real feature so you can download music videos to your iPod (or more realistically, people would convert DVD movies and stick 'em on there.)
