I voted other.

I prefer Jimmy John's subs and Big John's Steak and Onion subs the best.

I think The Big John's S&O is a local francise though.

I prefer the small mom and pop places. Just as long as it doesn't have any meat in it, I'm a happy camper.

IMO, subway stinks. It's the worst of all the larger chains.
The meat and cheese is not fresh, the bread is not grilled etc...

Blimpie's roxx. Where I livem, they give 20% student or military discount.

damn ... i havent tried quizno's but i heard they are damn greasy. out here, in san francisco, a small chain (vikings subs) are pretty popular, but there's also Togo's (dunno how big the franchise is, but they are like a subways here). Togo's used to have better sandwiches ... I dunno about now ...

Blimpie's used to be great, but now it's just plain sad (in New York anyhow). The best one was a little hole in the wall place with this old Italian guy. He would just heap on the meat, and he had lots of nice Italian stuff he'd suggest-and sometimes just add whether you wanted it or not. You'd be like- What the hell is in this thing, I ordered Ham and Swiss. But it was yummy. MMMM.

Then in Uni there was this place in Brooklyn called The Farmer in the Deli, these Turkish guys who would make the biggest heroes for nothing. You'd watch them slice the pastrami and you'd say surely he's going to stop at this slice...and then he slices ten more. Add an Airzona Iced Tea and you have lunch AND dinner for under 5 bucks.

Then you got this place in Rome where they got focaccia type bread and every type of yummy Italian product under the sun, you get what you want and they weigh it. The sandwhich can have litterally any size or shape or contents. Oh yummmmmmmmm.....

The moral of the story is, local guys in delis or wherever do it better than any "Subway Sandwhich Artist™".

Depends on how well the store is ran. The local Blimpies here sucks. Their bread is always stale etc. However the Subway is quite good. Basically I only get the Grilled Chicken though. I agree that the smaller chains or Mom & Pops are generally better. Mr. Goodcents is pretty good plus their subs are huge.

Ok, well obviously different countries subways differ, as well as country and city. Here, none of the things you said apply to Subway. We have only had a subway for 3 yrs or so and they opened a 2nd one a year ago so they must be doing well. Maybe they will end up like the ones wherever you are.

And, I am old enough to know that McDonalds isn't "TEH sh!t..."
But again, McDonalds are different worldwide. I like it a lot better now than it used to be, with all the McCafes and "healthy" stuff.

I'm only 25 miles from Lansing.

I meant local franchise as in the Michigan area. They are in Saginaw, Flint, Owosso, and Lansing as far as I know.

I wonder if the ones here in Richmond do likewise...

IN traveling europe, I got a veggie sub in London that was incredible. It was called something like a veggie extra or something but had a patty of some sort on it that was great. Honestly I've craved it for the past three months...
anyway, anyone know what those veggy patties are?

Certain Subway's offer hot veggie subs that have the patties in them. Not bad.

I agree togo's has been slowly going downhill. But still kicks the crap out of subway. But local places are the best. At the market in my hometown I dont' even have to order anymore they know what I want.

I'm originally from Philadelphia where we call them "hoagies" and in the Philly area, one of the best places is Slack's Hoagie Shack.

Up here in New England, however, I'm a big fan of D'Angelos. I'm still disappointed that no one can match the famous Philly cheesesteak, but that gives me incentive to go home. LOL.
