How big is the "Spring Break" phenomenon in the US? What percentage of young US college students actually participate in the alcoholic and sexual hedonism that takes place every year? The "Girls Gone Wild" series makes it appears as if this is an annual ritual for most young Americans.

Catch a flight to Ibiza to experience the real thing™

Isn't topless sunbathing still frowned upon in the States?

I wonder if any Canadians have joined in on the spring break festivities?

If you live in the UK, where I lived at the time, you can get an all inclusive 2 week package tour to Ibiza for under CA$400. Not really five stars but who cares

Ibiza is an island in the mediterranean
I've been to spring break in Naples, FL once and it was SO COOL! No topless chicks, not a lot of booze at the beach but the parties at night were amazing nonetheless.

Spring break has been huge for a long time. Even with high schoolers. I went to Florida when I was 16, the end of my sophomore year.

I think these days the majority of Spring breakers go to Mexico or the Caribbean. When I was in college, about a decade ago, we all went to Can Cun, Mexico.

I went 4 times between undergrad and law school. None of those times did I go to any location in the U.S. 3 times to Mexico and once to St. Barts. Mexico tends to be crazier and the Caribbean Islands tend to be less insane though there are plenty of opportunities to drink. I always passed on going somewhere in the U.S. because the people who went seemed trashier, which is amazingly possible even with regards to spring break, and because the weather was hit or miss at this time of year in the States. Almost everyone I knew went at least once. Some people liked it and went back and others found out it wasn't for them.
It's become more popular with HS kids though in recent years. I know a lot of people's younger siblings who have gone or plan on going before they ever get to college. The difference is that most of those high school kids go later in April as where college kids tend to have their vacation in March.

I can’t say there were many people who were there from Canada. Which could be because their vacations were at a different time or because there just aren’t as many college aged people in Canada compared to the U.S.

spring break still happens pretty large down here. I like to don some worn out midwest college hat and t-shirt, get a burnt tan, and act like I'm on vacation too. Usually works better this way, as the spring break girls don't seem to wanna hook up with locals so much as other spring breakers.

Yep.. It is pretty much illegal most places. I think there are a few beaches were it is allowed though.

Here in St. George (southern utah), it is huge (spring break). High schoolers from all over the place meet here and just "hang out". many people get 'action' and lots of underaged kids get arrested for drinking. Thousands of the kids just converge on the main boulevard and do whatever. There averages about 5 or 6 police officers on every block just watching the kids to make sure there are no fights, or drugs, or indecencies being performed...

It sucks for us locals because it takes like 35 minutes to drive 3 miles. Also, since they are all high school aged, they bring very little money to the local businesses. The city is trying to discourage them from converging here now.

down here girls dance on bartops year round taking their shirts off and hinting at the fun below the beltline.. for cash prizes. all it takes is alcohol, better yet that it's served till 4am.

oh, and the beaches around here are usually pretty okay about topless sunbathing for the ladies. unless they're walkin' around poppin' those bad boys in people's mouths.

I was there in 1998 and well. It's intense.
