Now I've been an internet user for a few years now and still get surprised by wanky claims of people like 'beta testers' making truck loads of cash weekly. I'm not about to share the link with the readers here in case I offend somebody, but I can remember seeing the same web site when I first got online. If its really a scam, how come its still there ? Maybe someone keeps digging it up out of the archives ?
I entertain ideas of making money the easy way as probably most people do especially if one doesn't have a lot to begin with !
I went as often as I do when I get something suspicious and checked out via google 'internet scams'. Just because I couldn't find this particular one probably doesn't mean its not a scam, maybe ?

as a general rule, beta testers get (if anything) a free/discounted copy of the final version... I've never heard of them getting cash

As a general rule: if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is !

If you want to make money beta testing, go apply for a QA job at a software company.

As Barnum said, a sucker is born every minute, that is why the ad remains.

I've gotten paid for "usability testing" by a major software company, but although the pay is good ($50/hour), the usability testing sessions are only 1-2 hours long, and occur only once a year or so.

I don't think beta testing would pay well, if at all. First, you have to be allowed to be a tester. Most don't make this first cut. Then, some offer incentives for the number of bug reports you submit. You are essentially in competition with the rest of teh testers. Finally, the "payment" might just be a free version of the software. Even if you could sell your licensed copy on E-bay, I doubt it would cover your time as well as a regular job.

Most porting houses hire out beta testers I believe, unless they have them in-house.
Aside from that beta testing isn't big money.
