I got offered a job that sounds legit, but I'd be an independant contractor to the company. The job is selling water filtration systems to homeowners in Southern Florida. I don't have to make any calls to the customers - all appointments are setup through their telemarketing firm. I'd run 10-14 calls per week, and give a 2 hour pitch at each one. Commission is a straight 20%, but that would be a pretty penny if I'm successful. I guess I just need to know more about the taxes and writeoffs that come with being an independant contractor, so any help is appreciated.
Don't just post a link to the IRS website either.

I really wasn't joking. I've walked out on interviews for jobs like that.

I've walked out on some to, but this one was different. I guess I'll have to give a better description.

Not so sure about the states, but I imagine things to be similar over there. Anyone I pay to do work for me, is as an independent contractor, as opposed to an employee. Basically, it just means that I don't have a responsibility to them, other than for what I tell them to do, and how much I will pay them.
Tax wise, any money I give to a contractor has no tax taken out. As opposed to paying an employee, which would require me to deduct tax. The money they earn is then 'tax free', until the end of the financial year, when they pay tax on that income. So make sure you keep track of your earnings, and be prepared to pay tax on what you have earned at the end of the year.
Go get 'em tiger. Can't hurt to give it a shot and see how it goes.
