No... they have bigger fish to fry.

They need to get on the network device system (video, iTunes, pictures etc. on your TV/Stereo).

No, niche software isn't Apple's thing. Hell, they can't even make a decent office suite.

That looks like a killer app for my books. Hmm

There is already a DM thread in the software forum - because it's software.

Really, how hard is it to post in the right forum?

Of course - the rules don't apply to you - because you're special...

[edit]

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...highlight=eyes

You even started a thread in the feedback forum (wow - when you want something done - you magically manage to post in the right forum) about how the red text on this page - http://forums.macnn.com/ - hurts your eyes.

That's right - the red text that states " Topics about applications ... belong in the Software forum!"

So you must have read it.

Or did the eye-hurting mean you couldn't understand the content of the text?

I find it ironic that this is about a bit of organisational software - I suppose you'll want to file your DVDs in the Books section.

I know THAT has been debated all over this forum, but it's certainly a thought provoking reply to your quote.

The feature that lets you scan barcodes through your iSight is really neat. I'd like to see more programs take advantage of iSights like this.

That is a desktop utility. Apple has a history of "assimilating" those into the OS. I think iTunes is the only true stand-alone app that Apple has done like that (to my recollection).

You make an application that enhances functionality of the system and there is a good chance it'll get copied. Unsanity didn't have a hissy-fit when some of their software was "borrowed" and implemented in the OS.

Although I can't get it to work with my USB cam (the picture is recognized at first but when it gets near a bar code it crashes).

I don't get the point of this... why not just have a shelf of stuff... I mean I get it but... dang this might be useful in some sitches but not many.

I doubt Apple would copy. That said I'm waiting for Apple to release iFlicks... though I think ripping a DVD for some reason may some how violate fair use (which is bloody stupid) But I would love to see Apple release a DVD ripper that would rip each chapter into an avc movie and copy the menus stuff. Either taking every part as a clip or simply redoing the DVD format but in a compressed way. Imagine reasonably compressed video using avc... yum. Add to that the iFlicks movie store, and ho baby!

You probably didn't want to start a debate with that, and as you said, it has been discussed before, but I have to point out:

Well, if you have a library of books or dvds or possibly other stuff you might want to organize it. Put item descriptions etc. For books I'd imagine it'd be damn handy to find similar items on Amazon.

What happens? (I'm too lazy to get my trilogy from the shelf and turn on the lights so my iSight has enough to function).

That's funny. On my computer, that red text is under the Mac OS X forum. Seems to me that it means don't post about applications in the Mac OS X forum. The Lounge text says: "Feeding your internet addiction since 2000."

Seems pretty much open to anything.

So by your logic there's no point in any of the other forums, we should just post everything in here.

I think not.
