Gmail started POP Access to all accounts. Go in Settings and you will find how to configure. Also it can archive all mail so that even after downloading they stay with gmail. They have guided settings for Apple mail.

Sorry if this was known earlier

well.. since I have multiple computers and going back home over the weekend.. I rather let the email messages on the mail server.. although you can still save a copy on the mail server.. IMAP is my choice anyway.

same here, I use imap whenever I can, I just don't need to have 1gb of e-mails on my computer when they can just as easily sit on google's computers.
