Is this really a big deal? It's better then a lot of other ideas that have been thrown about.

The bottom line is this. DVRs have the capability to destroy the entire TV industry. It was just a matter of time before stuff like this started happening.

I bet that in 20 years, all TV will be pay-per-view.

I don't really even use the fast forward button all that much really. I wonder if it willl effect the 30 second skip button.

If they get rid of that... then I will be seriously annoyed.

Maybe Slashdot is copying the Lounge threads?

Hmmm...

Agreed. I'd start looking at EyeTV or other DVRs if that happened.

It's called cable. $45/mo. for it. 50 channels I don't watch, 10 I watch regularly.

Where is this 30 second skip button? Ha, I've had tivo for a while but just use the fast forward to get through commercials. I can't find that button anywhere?

I might be missing something, but how?
Being able to record a television show that showed already and having the ability to watch it later is going to ruin the industry?
Who reads this???

Advertisers that get the show on the air.
If you're not watching their ads and they do not paying for them anymore, shows go away.

but, that would have to be billions of DVRs :>

Press Select-Play-Select-30-Select while watching a show. You should hear 3 dings to let you know that it works. Then the >| button will turn into the 30 second skip. You have to do this everytime the TiVo is reset though (like after a power outage).

The disadvantage is that you lose the ability to skip to hash marks when you do this. I had to turn it off.

If they start taking ads, then the TiVo service should become cheaper.

(I also maintain that if I am to use the self-checkout lane at the supermarket that I should get a discount for providing all the labor myself.)

Be sure to be doing this while watching a tivo-recorded show. It doesn't work if you're watching live tv.

I agree. I just put it on, but the other feature is invaluble. How do I turn it off. I tried entering the same code but it didn't work.

Nevermind, I just unplugged it and waited for it to restart and fixed it. Sorry.
