Anybody else seen this yet? It is freggin awesome... the IMAX 3D really is impressive and it sure helps adults get over the pretty simple plot of the movie. My nephews were quiet the whole film... except when they were grabbing for the snow falling in the theater. Incredibles is most definitely a better movie... but the IMAX 3D makes for a better experience... I just hope that the next pixar release gets the IMAX 3D treatment
Also... did anybody read that IMAX made about 10% of polars box office with about 1.6% of the screens? pretty darn impressive. Could be the start of something big More IMAX theaters anyone?

People said the same thing after Fantasia 2000. Nothing changed. IMAX will remain a niche unless a significant number of high profile movies become either IMAX-exclusive or IMAX-first.
Neither of which are going to happen.

Things are starting to speed up. In the past year there have been five high profile movies, that I can think of, released at Imax: Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Spider-man 2, and Polar Express 3D. I believe all, except for Matrix Reloaded, were released the same day in Imax as other theaters. Every time I've visited my local Imax, regarldess of time of day, it has been completely pakced. I watched Polar Express on Sunday afternoon and arriced at the theater an hour early and was still at the end of a very long line. My biggest complaint about my local Imax is that it is at a Regal theater and they waste screen time playing the same movies that are playing on their normal screens, and the normal movies don't look good to me blown up big. I wish they'd play a wider selection of Imax movies and then maybe play a mainstream film as a late show. Also, I don't think the seats are as comfortable as the seats in the normal theater.
Oh, and I loved Polar Express in 3D. It was fun ride and an exciting experience.

Spider-Man 2 was released late too... it was really cool in IMAX though

The movie was just creepy. IMAX doesn't compensate for a poor movie.
P.S. There is a Polar Express thread already.

Did you see it in IMAX Eug? Made a pretty huge difference to my eye... I peaked into a 2D showing and was not impressed. It's more like a ride in 3D... I just hope in the future they do something cool... like Robots in 3D maybe

I saw the movie days ago. Get a clue. It's stupid. And creepy.
So have you seen it yet?

No, I didn't see it IMAX 3D, "just" 2D. There were certain scenes (like the very repetitive multiple rollercoaster scenes) that seemed like they'd make a good ride, but the movie was just too lame overall. I'm not going to bother with it in 3D.
BTW, my GF, who was the one that really wanted to go see the movie (because she usually loves Xmas movies), was giggling thru several of the sequences because they were so bad.
And the black girl and that kid who yelled out "Elves!" just creeped us out.

I haven't. However I would see the 3D version except that there are no IMAX theaters in my area.
The fact that all you can say about the movie is "It's stupid. And creepy" makes me wonder if you have indeed seen it.

Hmmm... Even SpongeBob SquarePants gets much better reviews than The Polar Express.
BTW, I found this review interesting:
At some point, long about the time the Express finds its way to the pole and one child, horrified/excited, exclaims "Elves!", the picture's electronic phantoms, responding with ecstasy with the arrival of and every edict from their leader, begin to look like the wind-up toy goose-stepping of Riefenstahl's sturmabteilungen.
That "Elves!" kid is truly a classic. I want that clip in my collection. Very creepy.

I maintain it is worth the experience in IMAX 3D... It is just so unique that it really changes your perception of the film.
BTW... I just heard a thing on NPR with James Cameron... apparently he is shooting his next project "Battle Angel" with the same 3D cameras he used for his 2 IMAX 3D documentaries. So you can have that to look forward to in IMAX 3D come 2006
