The researchers said although the UK achieved high income per head, it had high levels of social and family breakdown.
So this is why Ireland ranked first.
However I don't consider catholicism a quality of life.

What has catholicism got to do with your quoted text? Would you say that 'social and family breakdown' is the mark of a 'most livable city'? Or that we should judge livability based on income only, and disregard social and family issues?

I would say that just because people don't get a divorce, doesn't mean they have a happy life.

All Nordic countries but Finland are in that list. Wonder why that is. I mean, shouldn't Santa count for something?

But Santa lives on Greenland, ie. Denmark, so he's counted already.
But somehow, I can't figure how Ireland can be number one, and the mere presence of Italy and Spain (as well as the absence of Canada) in the top 10 sort of puzzles me...

No no no, Santa lives on the North Pole. But it seems he's still Danish, though.

I can't remember having seen Canada on any such list... I've only seen three, though. Anyway, any list where Norway isn't on top is WRONG!
(Why, yes, I am Norwegian. How did you guess?)

Whew.
That was a close one.
Every year, just before that top-10 list is released, Americans get uneasy. See, we already have too many mofos coming into the country. The last thing we need to do is promote a global image of Americans enjoying 'the good life'.
Seriously, no matter what we do - people keep coming here. We could pass a law requiring every 3rd immigrant to be executed by lethal injection...and it wouldn't stem the flow of immigrants one bit.
Kudos to the panel of judges that create the top-10 list !!
Apparently, bribery was successful yet again.

It is funny you mention that, I've been reading about it lately and got me worried.
You can bet there are racists among spaniards and that the percentage increases among football radical fans. However, if I have to name a profesional within the Spanish league that I would never believe to be a racist that would be Aragones.
The UK media got the Henry situation out of hand. This is just my opinion.
If you like the Basque area give Santander or Navarra a try.

Yeah, i discovered a place called Estella in Navarra a couple of years ago in Navarra and loved it. Maybe San Sebastian though
I was thinking more of the monkey noises that were chanted at the black players during the game last night. We haven't had that in the UK since the late 70s / early 80s so it was a bit of a shock.
I understand that the translation of the Henry/Reyes exchange didn't do the Spanish coach many favours, English is more nuanced than Spanish when directly translated, which makes a lot of Spanish phrases sound very blunt!

Well, I guess it's time to teach Mexico a lesson again. Losing half of their territory during the first war wasn't enough I guess. I say we take Baja, and the Yucatan peninsula. They can keep the interior.

Ireland my arse!
One of the most expensive countries in the world.
It rains about seven months of the year.
The women are butt ugly (well, most of them).
It's bloody freezing most of the time.
Lousy public transport system.
Appalling hospital waiting lists.
21% V.A.T. (sales tax)
No smoking anywhere!
A nanny state where just about everything is being or about to be banned!
I would love to know what the attraction is?
Oh, and did I mention that most of the women are butt ugly and dress like sh1t?

Exactly, but that's exactly the numbers they looked it. They saw that Irish don't divorce as often than British so they concluded they have a happier family life. What they didn't consider was that it is more difficult to divorce in Ireland than in the UK. The ranking is flawed.

Yeah, I agree with feathers. Ireland shouldn't have won, being Irish I should know.
The women are not ugly though, certainly not as good looking as the women I see in Spain or france though. As for 21% tax, this is a good thing. It keeps poverty under control, everyone can get a degree in college for free plus if your poor enough your entitled to up to €3000 a year spending money while your in college!
I get €1000 a year and a four year Computer Science degree for free!
Also going to hospital is free!
The way I see it, its like communism because our wealth is shared more evenly and everyone (within reason) has equal opportunities_.
As for the weather, it is bad, but only really in the winter does it bother anyone.

I don't know if your being sarcastic or not, but thats complete ********. Ok you can get your hands on a gun quite easily, so therefore you have complete freedom? yeah right.
What about economic freedom and educational freedom? What's minimum wage over in the US may I ask? Remember when protests in new york against the war in iraq were banned ( http://www.freedomforum.org/template...cumentID=17552)?

I like Irish girls, perhaps a little fleshier and pasty thighed than most, but good for a laugh usually in my experience. Ireland's a wonderful country- a tad grey and culturally backward in my own experience, but nice just the same.
