Nov 23 is the day (may be for Canada as well). Looks interesting but the price? I'll get Atomic Bomb as I've heard very good reviews of it. Wonder how many of the unreleased tracks will be available for individual purchase.

US$149, $50 off if you have the U2Pod.
If you paid the same rate as the $9.99/album, it would be $185. At $.99/track, it would be $425. Included pdf "liner notes" as well, it appears.

hao wa for thee, and xie xie for contributing ... well, contributing actually nothing. Many people in many places can get a copy of Atomic Bomb and a DVD of The Incredibles, but we're not talking about that, now are we?

Does the box set have anything not on the original albums? I have most U2 albums so not sure if the set would be worth it for me.

Hmm, I'll have to check them out on iTMS when it's released. U2 is my fav band, so I'd prefer to buy it in physical format.

I respect Bono immensely for all he's done trying to champion the downtrodden in the world, and I like some U2 songs, but... meh.
One of the funniest reviews I ever read was of a U2 album-- it was just 3 words:
The Forgettable Fire.

I read somewhere, Time maybe, that a boxed set, and not the digital one, was also going to be available around the holidays.

Maybe some boxed set, but the "U2 Digital boxed set" will definitelly NOT be availabe. Then it wouldn't be digital anymore...

Question not related specifically to U2. If the physical box set just turned out to be CDs or a single DVD of MP3 files, would it still be more appealing than the Apple Store? (Replace MP3 with whatever type of digital compressed format you want as the choice would likely have some kind of DRM).

Digital box set includes something like 400 songs? $150 seems like a bargain, if you like U2 of course. But then you probably already have a number of the albums so you're paying for repetition, repetition.

I wonder how much it would cost to buy all of U2's older CDs from Cheapo or something? Sure, the new stuff is always expensive ($20/CD is nuts, but the norm), but I bet you can get all their major releases from a used place for far less than the digital boxed set.
Yep, just added up the used prices of Boy, October, War, Under a Blood Red Sky, The Unforgettable Fire, Wide Awake In America, The Joshua Tree, Rattle And Hum, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop, and All That You Can't Leave Behind from Amazon. Total cost: $54.45 + shipping. All of those CDs were in the $3-$8 range.
Apple's making a killing on this. Old songs are really cheap to license, so while $150 seems like it's a great deal (and I'm not saying it's not, given the extra stuff you also get with it), Apple is probably making lots of money on it anyway.
Anyway, for you U2 fans, this is probably the way to go. Going through and buying each CD used, individually, would be a big hassle. Then you'd have to encode all of them into iTunes to move them to your iPod, another step that isn't there in the digital boxed set. Then again, if you were a hardcore U2 fan, you'd probably have 80% of the stuff in this set already. I'm not really a fan of U2 so there's no way I'd buy this.

Well, if you want one of the 20 copies of The Joshus Tree in the bin, Cheapo is the way to go Seriously, I got my copy of RHCP Blood Sugar Sex Magik for $4 from Cheapo back in the day. Best deal ever. Too bad that store burned down

I'm not sure the boxed set is worth purchasing if you already have all of U2's albums...for 25 rare tracks (that are probably not that great anyway), this isn't a necessary purchase.
You didn't have this choice in your poll ("No, I'm just not going to get it.")

I'll get it. I've got most of their stuff, but I am really interested in the unreleased tracks, and I have the $50 off thing from the iPod, so I might as well.
