I seldom browse the forums via IE, but happened to this morning. I was surprised to see the DL manager window open and download a 1K file called "get.media". (I figured I must have unintentionally tapped some link)
When I moved to a different forum, it DLed "get 2.media". And so on, through "get 9.media" so far. Anybody know what is wacko? I usually use IE just to test my web pages, so the security doesn't worry me *too* much... but:
1) What might some other unfriendly site DL to me?
2) What in the world is MacNN doing by DLing this javascript into my DL folder?

Here's content of one of the files DLed:

// Instructions:
// 1. Create a file on your web server called ad.js using a text editor.
// (any name with the .js extension will work)
// 2. Paste this code into the .js file
// 3. Update the "... Javascript URL" in your Fastclick default to point to the .js file on your server.

var dz=document;
dz.writeln("");
dz.writeln("");
dz.writeln("");

This should be in feedback. And it's been addressed in earlier threads (and yes, it is annoying at the office but I see it as one more reason to hate XP).
That said, it's much, much better with firefox than IE (as most everything else is).

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Hmm... thanks for info. FWIW, however, I'm not on XP... this is the Mac IE 5.2.3

Usually I'm on Safari - and of course get no such.

I posted this phenom here because I didn't know for sure there was "feedback" to offer.

But... can someone explain it? Is it coming from the ads?

I'm pretty sure it's the ads. The only JavaScript the forums themselves run is for the easy smilies, the script that makes sure your message isn't too long, for private message popups, and the forum listing menu.

What's YOUR problem, samuraiDL? I try to give an honest answer and you scoff. If you've got a problem with me, take it up with me via PM.

JavaScript can't even do anything damaging, at least not on a Mac.

As for IE downloading stuff, what's probably happening is that the JavaScript which tells the browser to download some code (HTML code) is grabbing it off a server with the wrong MIME types, so IE is downloading it instead of parsing it. Or something similar.

I don't know... he's posted some weird things lately. And don't worry, he has taken it up with me by PM before...
