Well, I have.

We have invisible fencing around our yard to keep the dog in the yard. In addition to that, we have fencing (regular picket fencing) also around the yard.

We put the pooch out in the back yard regularly for about an hour at the time and he loves it back there. He gets to sniff around, check things out, sunbathe.

Yesterday we did the same. He has his collar on for invisible fencing. We were across the street at the neighbor's home going over some paperwork related to our damages from the hurricanes and came home to find his collar on the ground and he was gone. Nowhere to be found.

Now I'm on the hunt for a microchipped JRT.

I'm trying to rationalize that somehow he managed to slip the collar off, leave it on the ground, and take off. But, that's silly. It was found in the middle of the yard. Why would people do something like this?

My 4-year old has been really sick for about a month (REALLY sick) and now he has an emotional issue to deal with on top of it because he loves that dog and now he's missing.

I cannot rationalize or analyze this any other way except to think that it was on purpose. He is a very well-trained little dog. Knows tons of tricks and is very cute.

Of course I'll do the usual such as contacting authorities and the like, but it has to have been on purpose.

bastards!

if you haven't already considered this - make a little flyer with info about the doggie (name, age, color(s), size, etc.), a photo as well as the date and time when he was taken and distribute it around your neighborhood - mailboxes, put it on a couple of trees at intersections, etc. (i've never had a pet stolen but the flyer-method helped me in getting a burglar caught who had broken into our apt.)

it's not unlikely that someone in your neighborhood saw someone and/or something suspicious.

time to put that color inkjet to work!

good luck!!

I had a dog stolen from my place out in the country when I was a kid. My parents live about 3 miles south of town, so someone knew he was there and thought they deserved him more than I did.

My dad was driving around town one day and saw him in the back of someone's truck, so he followed them home (discreetly) to find out where they lived, and then snuck over there at night and took him back.

Terriers are very good at squeezing out of a collar if the mood strikes them.
I'd get flyers out asap with pictures of the pooch and a reward offered. Check with kids in the neighborhood who might have seen it.

So sorry to hear this. My family has experienced the misfortune of losing a pet under similar circumstances. Hopefully the microchip will flush him out for you. Get the word out, and keep checking at the vet's and the local animal shelter(s).

Good luck. I hope your child feels much better soon.

$250 reward flyers are now in place.

NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

My dad was driving around town one day and saw him in the back of someone's truck, so he followed them home (discreetly) to find out where they lived, and then snuck over there at night and took him back.
I'll do that too if given the opportunity.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Cody Dawg. Really hope that the reward will be successful.

We had a greyhound stolen, almost thirty years ago. My wife let him out one Sunday morning, he ran into the backyard, and about fifteen minutes later, my wife commented that Blitz wasn't barking; he would always run into his pen, do his thing, run back to the side door, and bark, as he hated being out in the yard without us. She went out in the back yard, and he was gone. We figure that someone was waiting in the a car on the street, and baited him, as there was fresh snow on the ground, and the walk and driveway were shoveled, but no tracks were found on the front lawn. He apparently took someone's bait from a vehicle, and we never saw him again.

Hope you find your dog, CodyDawg.

I can't believe someone would do that. Good luck in your search. I hope you get your dog back.

Didn't you have an "altercation" with your dog and one of the neighbors? Would your JRT let just anyone walk up and remove his collar?

Your story is very sad. I lost a cat once, never a dog.

Went On a family vacation when I was younger. We had my uncle feed him and walk him 3 times a week. Half way through vacation my uncle gave my dad a call. My dad didn't tell me. Then I went home and went outside to see watson, and he was gone. My Uncle said the dog got stolen, dog bowl and all. It was probably the damn neighbor, cause watson always barked at the cat, wherever it was cause the damn cat had a cow bell on it. We posted the loss in the paper. But we didn't look any further cause we lived in such a big city. All I can say was whoever did it isn't a very cool person ... nice lab as well.

Yes. One day when I came home from school a few years back one of our mutts was gone. I looked everywhere for it and could not find it. A body never turned up so some jerkstore did not hit and kill it. So that leaves me to believe some jerkstore stole it.

Not coincidentally, someone my little sister did not get along well with got a new dog soon thereafter. May she step in strategically placed dog crap many times in her life.
Genius. You know who.

Uh, are you sure something else did not happen? Like, with a car or truck?
