Some lowlife shot him just to watch him fall behind where I work.

The bullet broke his leg internally so I rushed him to the vet that the DNR uses and called them also.
The ranger got there and told me I did the right thing and commended me in the first aid given to the hawk.

He's in surgery now and they are going to let me help with the rehab.

That was nice of you. Who ends up paying for the vet bill?

Here in GA, if the vet received a grant he has to render services to the DNR free of charge and first.

This was obviously an emergency and they are working on him now.

If I catch the lowlife, he will have to contend with a baseball bat.
The DNR will be the least of his worries.

Good job! How did you "capture" the bird? Or was it so injured you could just toss a blanket over it and wrap it up?

A bat? He deserves a taste of his own medicine.
Kneecap him with a .22 and see how he does walking the rest of his life.

I just slowly walked up to it and wrapped the towel around it.
It was laying in the loding dock filled with water behind me hypothermiating.

I keep towels in my office so when my cockatoo visits I can cover the chair she perches on and I keep some in my truck to cover the seat when she rides with me.

wow, that's really heartwarming boomstick. my mother when i was a kid ran the local nature center. they had a hawk, gadje, that was injured by hitting a car, in their care. really incredible to see those raptors in close proximity.

especially when your last name is Hawkes.

even if the hawk won't make it back to the wild, there may be a future for it in the education circuit.

and the F*cker that shot that hawk, you owe it to him. sick balls chopper.

I had never held a hawk before.
I've rehabed many chirpy little wildbirds, but I've never got to rescue a hawk that was still alive.

They are indescribably beautiful and I can't even fathom why someone would hurt one.

He went into surgery yesterday and I have no word on his condition, but they are going to call me so I can come and visit and feed him.
