So I'm going to Boston in just over a week. The background is an architectural presentation of a studio project to some people at Harvard (Friday), but we have Saturday free and I've never been there. So, I know I can't see everything in one day, but if any of you have suggestions of places to see, where to eat/drink, etc., I would be much obliged.

Ah, Boston is a great town. Too bad you didn't make it at the height of autumn.

I strongly recommend taking the subway (called the T) to get places in the city. Fares are $1.25 per person per ride (some exceptions in certain areas and directions) and you may find it convenient to get a pass for a day. Parking is always a pain in the ass, and the drivers are infamous, hence my recommendation. I'd also advise getting the big system map if possible since it shows much of the local street grid as well as the layout of the stations and will be very useful. It's free, and they often have them at the booth on the outbound Green Line platform at Park St.

Boston Common and the Public Gardens (Park St., Boylston, Arlington) are a good walk. It is also convenient to the Theater District (Boylston) if you want a show, or the Back Bay (Arlington).

Tourists generally are fond of Harvard Square (Harvard Sq.) for food, entertainment, and shopping. Newbury St. in the Back Bay is similarly popular (Arlington, Copley, Hynes/ICA). The Freedom Trail has a free walking tour of many revolutionary era historical sites, starting from the Old State House (State) which is near Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market, where you can get something to eat (Aquarium, State, Govt. Ctr.).

There's some tour buses and such (e.g. Duck tours leaving from the Prudential Ctr. (Copley)) but it might be getting a bit cold for that. I haven't done it, so I can't speak to it.

For dinner, you probably can't beat a good Italian meal in the North End (Aquarium). Pretty much anything in the Hanover St. area ought to be good. For dessert hit Modern Pastry on Hanover for canoli (skip Mike's, they're not as good).

Get Laid, have fun, go clubbing!
All I want for Christmas is a Swedish and/or an Aussie girl in my lap, a Guinness in my hand and a big smile on my face.

oh man, it's snowing like crazy here... but wunderground says it's not so bad in Boston, hope it stays like that for the next week. Thanks for the suggestions... eating Lobster while getting laid outdoors on Boston Commons sounds like a good Saturday to me, I'll see what I can do.

oh, yeah, forgot that's still in the profile. Nope, I spend 9 months of the year (if not more) here in South Bend at school. It's dumping the white stuff on us now, and after 5 years here I've actually acumulated some warm clothes, thankfully

I live in boston (BU student) so here are my suggestions:

Use the T. Driving and parking in boston is hell and VERY expensive.
There are a LOT of good museums in the city : Museum of Fine Arts, Science Museum, Aquarium... yada yada yada...

Just wander around... Harvard Sq. and Newbury are fun, if expensive. There are good bookstores all over the place, if that's your thing.

Government Center (Quincy Market / Haymarket / North End) is fun... now that you don't have to walk under the old, sketchy expressway (it was torn down)...

have a good time.

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

For the daytime- before you go out and get laid- I would recommend the trolley tour. Even as a local, I enjoy it- PLUS- with the right driver, you learn alot. You can get off the trolley and get back on all over the city and at many of the spots you might want to see. You pay one price for all day transportation, see the sights- have some food and libation and they take you back again. What's wrong with that?

As someone said earlier, go to the North End for some great Italian restaurants.

They're wicked good. (oh yeah, and work on the local lingo)
