I had to take this class as it was a requirement. I was gonna challenge the course but I got more money out of the government if I actually took it.
So here's my final, it's a wine label if you haven't guessed. Check out the leet vintage.

very nice idea!
one suggestion - i'd take a second peek at your font usage. the "tiffany-lamp" style illustration (have no clue what the proper english term would be - in german it's "bleiverglasung") and its inherent, thick outlines do clash a tiny bit with the subtle lines of the fonts - esp. the name ("chastete ..."). just a bit if fine-tuning, nothing else.
but other than that ... goodie!

Gotta agree with effgee on this one. Maybe fatten up the type a little, but I would go with a modified sans serif type with that illustration, and leave the name of the wine in script but make sure it's fattend up a little.

I am not an artist, but I think it is superb!
Good job!
Regarding the French text, I wonder though...
See, "Chasteté de la Volupté" is kinda going against the picture...
The Devil is tempted by Yout and Beauty, therefore, desire from virginity...
So the reverse would seem most appropriate..
Volupté de la Chasteté is more like it to me...
Don't get me wrong though: this is really nice!

I disagree. A fatened sans serif font, like an Arial or Helvetica, wouldn't fit in.
Bauer Bondi is a very nice font that has a certain elegance to it, without having a novelty-ish look like the current font. Then again, it's got a modern-esque look to it. Caxton, Celestina Antiqua, and Charlemagne all look nice, too.

My coworker is here on a green card from France. She helped me with the French (since I don't know French) and with the label a bit. I trust her judgment with the fonts since she lives in France and she drinks a LOT of wine.
It's a stained glass window that's found in Romania in some cultural palace. I had to do a lot of interpretation because the picture was extremely low res and taken at a steep angle. Couldn't see any of the detail.
This is what the text roughly says (from what I can remember):
Family Owned Wine (important, not owned by a corporation.)
(LABEL)
Avoid Temptation (...or something like that. Yes, it contradicts the picture.)
House of Finn (Me. )
Officially considered a great wine in 1979
California (The region)
Grown in Napa Valley (Specific area inside region)
Vintage (You can guess where I got that from.)

Papapapap ... a sans serif font doesn't have to look bad. And my guess is that the magic word in iRez's post was: "modified" sans serif.
Personally I wouldn't use a sans serif font for this particular label because a) I like the style as is and therefore wouldn't change it and b) it would most likely be contrary to pigeon's intent.
But it could work ... A sans serif font does not automatically "not fit in".

I like the example with the san-serif label, but the original is good. As far as other changes go, I think you should either:
a. Give the female some "dinner plates" (big nipples)
or
b. Change the color of her nipples to a dark reddish-brown to accentuate them.
Because (I think we all know) it's all about the nips™

Nice label! Great composition and color.
Kinda reminds me of one of my favorite Reds.

i knew i had a stronger script font lying about somewhere - this is what i was refering to in my first post. something more "fountain pen/handwriting/signature"- and less "calligraphy"-like to give it a stronger personality and use the thicker lines to support the illustration and "ease" the transition from illustration to information (pict > font) ...
of course, one shouldn't necessarily be using van gogh's handwriting for such a project - i'd probably draw something in illustrator but it gets the point across rather nicely.

How fitting that this is the first thread I read after coming home from seeing "Sideways".
By the way, if you haven't already: Go See This Movie. Very good stuff.

Only reason I checked it out was because it said Nudity....
Was good enough for me, was worth the visit

yeah, the second heavier script is what I saw in my head tew...less of a collision between the top and bottom that way. The illustrations rather nifty tho.
The first design curriculum I re-wrote, first thing I did was trash all the trite projects tho...I think I've done exactly one wine label in real life, so that means I did about 4 lifetimes worth in school. Ditto that for CD's.
