Hey all,
I got hired by Macworld Sweden to design their new online forums. I was wondering what you all think makes a great forum in terms of design (like MacNN). Do you have any other forums that you go to that you like the design of?
The project starts this Monday and i'm excited to get to add Macworld to my portfolio and client list.
Cheers! Any imput is very much appreciated!

Congratulations!
That's quite an accomplishment.
Not many people can say that they have that sort of thing in their portfolio.
However, I hate Macworld USA. Their online site is terrible. Their mods suck. They constantly censor everything over there.
Hopefully your site for Sweden will be nothing like the USA version which is

Don't over- or underdesign it. If it's too bloated people will hate it. If it's too simple, people will start bitchin'. Tough luck

What great advice by D'Espice. Exactly right.
MacNN seems to have the best online forums site that I've seen and used. If I was to put up a site, I'd use vBulletin also.

Keep the fonts small and the number of posts per page high. I noticed this by comparing MacNN Forums to Macuser.de Forums. In the Macuser.de Forums the font size is way too big and only a half a dozen replies per page. This way it's not fun to browse a forum imho.

Hey, Thilo.
How do you pronounce your name? Just wondering. I have an English friend and I want to compare the way you say it to the way he says it.
Thanks!

That's how my friend says it!
I swore that it was "THEE-lo" and he said that the correct pronunciation is "T-lo."
Is that the German way of saying it...or is everyone, English and German, supposed to pronounce it "T-lo?"
(Sorry to derail the thread, guys, but this is important!)

About 200 years ago people in Germany wrote a th instead of a single T. I think that is how my name evolved. There also is a "Tilo" without "h". Mine is with h though. And the "thee" is a purely english thing. In German you would always pronouce a "th" like a "t".

And, it's a German name, hence the German pronunciation of "T-lo," I suppose.
Have you ever heard it pronounced "Thee-lo?" Ever?

Good thing private messages were invented.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Yeah, I guess it is.
This particular thread has a good "feel" to it. We like conversing here.
We also like Webscreamer and keeping his thread and topic at the "top" of the thread list.

I have the feeling most people enjoy the lighter colors, not heavy dark colors. Am I right?

thee is not purely an english thing.
In Spanish it is often the sound for the letter c as in 'cine' and always for the letter z a in 'zapato'.
In Icelandic the 'thee' sound is represented by the letter þ. Icelandic also has the sound ð which is very close to the Spanish sound of d in 'de'.

Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't know how to express it clearer. I meant the "th" literally. The vocal pronounciation does exists in other language. You are absolutely right.
