Looks suspiciously like a PowerBook, doesn't it? How does the "Enhanced Virus Protection" of the Athlon work by the way?

I don't really think it is a PowerBook. It has a black keyboard.

The "Enhanced Virus Protection" that is referred to is called DEP - Data Execution Prevention. It supposedly prevents viruses from running or something like that, but in actual use I've simply found it to be annyoing and turned it off. It tried to prevent me from running a beta of EQ2 one time due to "non-verified code."

It's a TiBook, as I am typing this reply on a black keyboard.

Anyway, this is old isn't it? Hasn't AMD at least upgraded to Aluminum by now?

I too saw the ad in Empire this morning. Totally pathetic if you ask me. How can AMD, as well as all the others who have done similar, i.e. M$, use an Apple laptop in their advertising for a non-Mac product. If it was me I would fire the people responsible. It makes them look foolish to those in the know. Even if the vast majority do not realise it's a Mac, even some Mac users didn't realise its a TiBook* (see above post), internally they should know its a Mac and fire the people responsible. It's just plain pathetic for them to do this. Funny but pathetic.

*I too am typing this on a TiBook.

Oh - didn't know that. My AlBook has a sliver keyboard, and I just assumed that the TiBook did also. Oops.

Everyone knows Apple makes the best-looking computer hardware. And it's probably an inside joke on the part of the Mac-using ad designers. Can they design an ad for a PC product with a Mac in it and have the PC company reps spot the ad? I would say "No" in the case of AMD.

But, you guys really are geeks. Has no one yet mentioned the "erotik fotos" involving Sarah Jessica Parker featured in the corner of the magazine?

Come on, step to it and scan in those pics!

I loved that Gateway add with a PowerBook... or the Ebay add for P3 notebooks that I saw forever ago, which had a 17 inch PB in it.

Best Buy was running holidy commercials a while back advertising Dell PCs... but they showed red and green iMacs.

It's funny.... lots of advertising people want to use pictures of Macs for Windows products. One of the early Windows XP Service Pack 2 ads had an iBook in there...

Well, it is possible to make Windows XP run on an iBook. Sure, Virtual PC is slow as the dickens, but it does work.

Getting an Athlon to run in a PowerBook, on the other hand, isn't possible in any way, shape, or form!

The laptop in the ad is most obviously a TiBook with the white Apple logo Photoshop'ed out. I see this all the time in magazines. I've also seen someone using a TiBook on TV with a piece of silver tape over the Apple logo on the lid.

Yeah, I've also noticed this on several occasions. How do they get away with it?

No real reason. Was cooler than a Powerbook picture.

There is only one explanation for this. Advertising agency don't produce the photos for their print ads any more, but rely on (cheaper?) stock photography. And maybe stock photography mostly contains Macs because they look better or because that's the computers the photographers have at hand.
