I was there a few weeks ago- the Wells/Ogunquit area. No local access. No internet cafe. No cable or DSL available.

Made me crazy.

What do people in Maine do?

Are there other places like this that I should prepare for before I visit?

Jest wonderin- not insultin...

Dude, you don't know fun until you've been Maine-wards.

We do this thing, it's totally awesome. Basically you go up to a cow. Then, get this, you push it...

...really hard...

...

...so it falls...over.

So you know what I'm talking about.

Seriously, though. The Internet's still not everywhere up north. I'm from the Bangor area and we mostly have Internet. It's only those who live way out in the woods who can't get broadband. And that's cuz they can't even get cable tv for the most part.

As for Internet cafés, we only just got a Starbucks in Bangor this summer. That should give you some idea of how long it's gonna take the modern world to get a foothold up here.

That is, if you can get close to a cow while it's standing up.

"MOOOO".

FIXED.

There is always the availability of satellite hookup.

Haven't had a problem, granted cable and DSL are only available in high populated areas (DUH) most schools all have broad band

Dial up is everywhere else.

you guys just need to realize its a different world from your starbucks and abercrombie worlds. most people are more worried if the mill will close down instead of how fast you can download the latest starwars trailer.

granted most people come to maine to get away from the internet.

Talking about internet in the backwoods of Maine. My friend has a house up in Embden, He's about 20-30 mins from anything. Talk about mostly being in the backwoods. He has Cable internet there.

The only thing I've noticed in my travels to Maine is that there appears to be strict guidelines for apparel and automobiles. EVERYBODY was wearing L.L. Bean and driving an Outback. I felt like an alien driving a Honda there.

I think everyone has at least 1 gun as well. Considering the HQ of L.L. Bean is in Newport Maine. But all joking aside. Maine is a really great state to visit. Absolutely Beautiful.
