Apple have managed to sort out the sale of the Band Aid single.
Well done for doing the right thing, they stick to the 79p rule but also ensure that the charity get the same money from each sale - £1.49.
I bought the CD on Monday, but I think I will buy the download as well, just to offer a bit more support, and to let Apple contribute to the charity, they and I can afford it.
I suggested this as a way to do it in the Apple discussion forums, as it seemed the obvious thing to do.

why don't you mail Band Aid your contribution? so it gets all your money and since you have that music already.

Because I would like Apple to contribute as well, therfore nearly doubling the contribution.
I might buy 2 copies online so they get another £1.58 from me and £1.40 from Apple !

Did my bit and downloaded it, and the original. Shame it's absolutely awful, but I don't have to listen to it, do I ?

you rally didn't write it clearly
instead of buying the music a bunch of times, i personally would have send them 5 bucks if I cared about the charity (which it sounds like you do).

But by buying the music from Apple I in fact double the amount contributed, my cash plus the money from Apple.
That way I can contribute mote to the charity than I can afford!!

Ok, I see what you're trying to say.
The problem is, we don't know how much Apple has to share of the sales price of 0.79 p.
Part of the money is going back to the musicians, part to the MI, part to Akamai, part to Apple etc.
Given that in this whole secret deal, Band Aid get's more than 0.09 p from Apple from the sales, then yes, your contribution to Apple gives Band Aid a higher contribution.
So we can't really know.

Mr Turtle, the musicians did the single for free and I doubt very much that Apple is taking anything out of this sale (plus there are no record companies to deal with either).

That might very well be true.
But I doubt that Apple is getting NOTHING for providing the iTMS platform.
And my last statement still holds true unless proven wrong:
The details of the deal are not disclosed, so we can't really know (for sure).

All money from the sale of the record is going to the charity, Apple , the Artists the record label take nothing, even the tax man in the UK is not taking his cut.
IT'S A CHARITY.
