It's a mutual partnership - Apple sells more iPods, U2 sells more songs (in digital format).

Bono created the iPod in his garage.

Apple is simply honoring U2 for that amazing accomplishment with the SE iPod...

At least it makes sense for them to use a band to pimp a music store and player. But the U2 iPod is pretty sexy in person.

Three months ago, artist Francis Hwang was blocked from selling an unauthorized Special-Edition Negativland vs. U2 IPod on eBay's auction site after Apple complained it violated its copyrights.

I though it came with songs preloaded too, but I did find this quote from apple's page. "As an extra special treat, it includes an iTunes Music Store coupon you can use to get $50 off your purchase of “The Complete U2.”

Old thread I know, but hey!

Doesn't U2 own their own digital distribution? If this is the case, they have a lot more to gain through iTunes promotion than most other bands.

Ugh, we all know Apple owns controlling interest in Bono... the deal went through in the fall of 2003. Apple is also currently patenting the color scheme "red and black".

MOS, where did you read that crap?

Wrong. Edge was the one who invented it. Bono simply suggested the red and black colour scheme.

I heard it was Mr. T who picked the color scheme. He wanted it to look like the A-Team van.
