Dude they are all his mom.
If you know it's old, how come you posted it? Like, besides to get the timeline pic, what's the motivation behind it?

Really, you've never seen this on the net before? I can't say that I've seen it on these forums though so I guess it's not totally timeline worthy. But I guess I saw it long enough ago that I thought it internet old.

"Downward spiral"...?!? Maybe because they arrested her instead of trying to help her?
... What about trying to understand and help people, instead of (ideally or really, doesn't matter) crucifying them? Eh?

It still paints a rather stereotypyed picture of drugs in general. Any pharmacologist will tell you that most drugs aren't evil, and most won't do "that" to you unless you make the choice to let them.
Remember, the average opiate (ie. opium, morphine, heroin depending on structure/potency) user in the early 20th century was a middle-aged, middle-class woman taking narcotics by mouth, probably ordered as laudanum from the local mail order catalogue! This wasn't a terribly big deal, because it was relatively common and few problems were seen.
The drug didn't really receive the "evil" stereotype until new restriction laws and resulting black market price increases turned the average user into a young, lower-class user injecting heroin intravenously.
Not that I'm advocating illegal drug use...just pointing out that the view of a drug user shown in the picture – that of a lower-class addict on the "downward spiral" of dependance – is by and large inaccurate, and probably akin to viewing those who drink as the "traditional" degenerate alcoholic.

Drugs in and of themselves aren't really that bad for you. It's what you do while taking drugs that's the killer. Looking back over my quasi-heavy drinking years (college years)... most of my bad decisions, in one way or another, centered around my clouded vision while drinking.

Of course she is going to age in 14 years.

Thing is, it's only sad cause she was pretty in the beginning.
(That's what it's telling me, anyway) I don't know that girl. Maybe she was a born loser, no matter what.

If you look a little closer, every pic but the last appears to have occurred between 83 and 89. 3 through 7 look to all be 1985. The first two: 1983.

The real issue is that it looks like she is 30 years older and had her face smashed repeatedly over those years.
Granted, take a photo of me at 15 and at 30 and you will see a different person.

That's funny, I know people who've used heroin for 20 years and you wouldn't be able to pick them out of a crowd of any other middle-aged, middle-class happy family couples.
Just a reality check.

what's wrong with drugs? it's the people who can't handle them.
just don't take too much too many times and you'll lead a good live.
just do too much of this ..
and you'll end up like this :

With all due respect, I've known quite a few addicts (and if you shoot heroin you are an addict), and the price they pay is frightening. I've done heroin, and even though I'm clean now and have been for over 12 years, while I was shooting, it was really hard on my body. I quit because I knew it would kill me.
In my "misspent youth" I tried them all, everything, and there were 3 drugs that were more "possessing" than the others... heroin, cocaine, and meth. Oh man, I loved a good speedball.

Sorry, this is the kind of misinformation I'm trying to poke fun at in this thread.
If you shoot heroin, you are NOT automatically an addict. Current estimates of drug use in the US today put it around 500,000 narcotic-dependant individuals, with maybe 2 to 3 times more occasional heroin users, or chippers. There have been a few studies on the characteristics of occasional users compared to heroin-dependant users, but no consistent differences have yet been found besides the pattern of use.
So, in other words, heroin IS both physically and psychologically addicting, and as such is a dangerous drug to take. However, there are significant numbers who do and can use heroin occasionally.

Maybe you've met them, but I sure haven't. I know a lot of different types of drug users, and I've never met a long term recreational heroin user. Now, I have met people who have only shot it once or twice and quit, but not someone who can just hit it casually. I have very strong doubts regarding that.

I've done a fair few drugs socially, (acid, meth, e, mdma, pot, cigarettes, coke, speed, k, alcohol) - I think everything but G (which I will try shortly I expect) and anything taken intravenously (there's a line I won't cross), and I don't/can't get addicted at all. As a matter of fact I smoked out of choice, 16mg cigarettes for about 4-5 months, then couldn't buy them regularly because I ran into some money issues and never once had a single craving. I think some people just have personalities which more easily become dependant on things, whereas personally I don't need drugs or alcohol to have a good time (although they sure can help )

people do shoot smack occasionally. it's culturally decided if people regard it as a looser-drug, or use it as a partydrug.
In France herion is cool. In holland it's associated with addicts like whores and bums.

when i was at a giant freeparty in france, a just met friend offered me drugs. when i saw how he used it, heating above tinfoil and inhaling thru a straw, i kindly rejected. This was a really nice, normal person. When i told him that in the Netherlands people absolutely repulse when they see heroin he was amazed.
bear in mind that this was at a freeparty. I can understand that ordinary French won't start with heroin as well. It's a matter of environment I guess. If all of my intelligent, recreationally using friends would take it once or twice, it would be more tempting. It's bad stuff. better stay off of it while you have something to loose.

oh great - another lets hate drug thread by teenagers who's biggest use of drugs will have been a 6 pack and a night of cigs.
One of my friends has been a recreational user for 20 years - keeps away from weed and the hard stuff like GBH and heroin - has one of the best memories and holds a high paying exec job. Nothing wrong with his brain nor his body. No addictions and no crazy behaviour except to have the best time. Like alcohol responsible use is the way to go.

simonjames, let me set this straight. I am a recreational drug user. I smoke pot, do `shrooms, and have been known to take a hit of acid every now and then. In short, no, I'm not an "anti-drug nazi". "Do what you will" is my motto. However, some of them are damnedable substances; crack, heroin, meth, PCP. Nasty stuff, and yeah, I've tried them all.
