I had to stare away several times I guess I failed the homophobia test.
Sure there was enough action, but it was a horrible mix of drama and flying guts, preceded with too many caucasian-kill-asian-high-five! bits. And ont top of it, it was boring. How could I give this movie any rating?

I have noticed the same thing, people who are uncomfortable with homosexuality hate the movie, ones who don't care less seem to like it for the most part.

I should stick with going to the theater 3 times a year and no more, so that I will watch stuff that I like.
I am glad that the ticket was free this time, but I feel that I should have gone to the SpongeBob SquarePants screen instead.

My impression is that most people, regardless of sexual orientation, hate the movie.
And what I've seen from the trailers certainly doesn't impress. It'd definitely not high up on my list of movies to see...

I avoid films which have that really tough Irish fella Farrell in them anyways, on account of him being a bit of a turd.

That's too bad, thought that it was going to be a good movie. Does it include some historical references?

So far I have heard gay people say it is a "wonderful gay love story". So I guess one market will like it.

Well, at 15%, at least you can take heart that it's gotten more positive reviews than the supposed 5ish % of the population who is gay.
I thought this blurb was amusing though:
"Alexander often seems a couple of heartbeats away from turning into a gay porno film."

I think that there are too many of these movies that are getting progressively worse. Gladiator started it all and it was a great movie.... Then there was Troy, which I didn't see but I heard was just OK and only a few months later Alexander, which I heard was horrible, regardless of the homosexual scenes.
The homosexual scenes weren't just the director and writers' gay fantasy, homosexuality was appealing in those times, every man had a wife and a gay lover.....Times have obviously changed.
All in all, movies have to be diverse and not pound in the same themes until they are ruined....

Looking away from the love scenes in Alexander doesn't mean you're a homophobe. It just means you hate badly-directed overacting with no chemistry whatsoever between the actors and way too much eyeliner. If the scenes had been well-done, then you might be a homophobe for looking away, but not as they currently stand.

It depends. It is possible to fear something without realizing it. But in the context of not wanting to see dudes kissing on a movie screen, you are correct.

There was a test? Crap...

From what I hear, it's not just homophobes who don't like the movie.
It sounds like every person, regardless of their orientation (gay, lez, straight, bi, tri, quad, pedo, sheep lovers) should stay away from this movie, 'cause it is supposedly a terrible, piece of crap, boring movie.

That movie sucked, even if you totally disregard the homosexual scenes.
I think it's the worst movie in 2004. It sucked so bad, that I didn't even drink my second beer that I brought, because it didn't want to waste in on that movie.

Let's start out with a deductive score system.
Homosexual scene that is poorly directed -10 (Sorry, I really don't want to see two guys doin stuff)
Bad acting -20
Pitiful battles -20
Oliver Stone -40
Total: 10/100
Calling someone a homophobe because they don't want to see the guys having fun is ridiculous. There are many sexual activities I'd turn away from if I was forced to see them, such as S&M, BDSM, mature, guy on guy, MMF, hentai, etc. That stuff sucks.

The man love didn't bother me. The scenes with Angelina and Alexanders wife more than made up for it.
I just thought the movie stunk.

A phobia doesn't always refer to a fear. Case in point: hydrophobia. It is not a fear of water. It is also not some new word coined by an overly defensive group, quite the opposite really. It's a rather archaic term for rabies. By the same token homophobia doesn't necessarily refer to a fear. The difference in meaning from the roots (in this case) is caused by a phenomenon known as semantic bleaching which, along with many other similar phenomena, cause languages to constantly undergo linguistic change.
Words mean what they are commonly understood to mean, not what you think they should mean based on a purely etymological analysis.
