"This week Jensen, the chief financial officer of the software giant, went out on a limb to predict that PS3 and Xbox 2 will be able offer the most impressive, immersive and realistic gaming ever seen. (Nintendo's Revolution didn't even get a mention.) Speaking to the attentive audience at the Credit Suisse First Boston Annual Technology Conference, mystic Jensen went on to say, "Imagine the characters in a football game expressing real emotions. That's the kind of thing that's going to be possible with the next generation of technology".

I can make realistic images on an 30MHz Amiga using Lightwave. What's so special about these?

if thats the graphics that you see when you're playing (IE, not a cutscene), then they'll fall under the "too good for their own good" category.

I wish i had the love for games I used to. I just can't "get into" them anymore. Someone posted something similar the other day that summed up exactly how I feel about games.

I have heard rumors of claims purportedly coming from Sony execs that state that the PS3 will handle Unreal 3 level graphics. While I'd imagine that they'd be rendered without any of the AA/AF features of computer video cards and only at 640x480, it'd still be quite a feat. Take a look at the Unreal 3 engine screenshots:

I'm just hoping that the developers take HDTV into account when developing their new games. I LOVE playing 720 or 1080i games on my Xbox+HD.

I highly doubt those are live shots from ingame. They're probably movies playing on it.

Why would they do that? I mean if it is a movie the PS1 could show something that good. I am sure that they are showing off LIVE rendering.

There's a general rule of thumb with console graphics that the pre rendered graphic quality of the first machine will be the in game quality of the next, this is roughly what happened from PS1 to PS2 and it looks like its going to be at least that from PS2 / Xbox to PS3 / Xbox 2.
If you don't believe me, look at a Gran Turismo 1 or 2 cutscene and compare it to GT3 A spec in game. Then look at the preview gallery/photo mode shots of GT4, which is hi res rendering on a PS2, and compare them to the yellow Porsche pic...
In other words, Gran Turismo 5 graphics on PS3 will be GT4 photo mode quality in real time .

PS3 and XBOX 2 gameplay will be amazing; hands down. The questions are will the XBOX2 be any more compact and will the controllers be any better than the nintendo DS (i just wanted to add that it to show how big of a disappointment that was....)
If anyone has actual screenshots of the system and controllers.....

Two great examples:
1) Dark Castle: Ok, so it's a little dated. But the game is still fun.
2) Splinter Cell: Nifty graphics, boring as sh*t.

better example
Getaway: People said it would be amazing cause the graphics and gameplay where realistic... but who wants a game to be too realistic... when i played that game i was like... wha in the hell.. i didn't by a game to follow traffic regulations. IMHO that game was horrible... but the graphics made it entertaining to a certain extent

"The G-Cans Project is a massive project, begun 12 years ago, to build infrastructure for preventing overflow of the major rivers and waterways spidering the city (A serious problem for Tokyo during rainy-season and typhoon season). The underground waterway is the largest in the world and sports five 32m diameter, 65m deep concrete containment silos which are connected by 64 kilometers of tunnel sitting 50 meters beneath the surface. The whole system is powered by 14000 horsepower turbines which can pump 200 tons of water a second into the large outlying edogawa river."

I know! But it's pretty incredible to see how close art and reality has come since it could pass as being an in-game shot

I was thinking the same thig. Looking at most of the links provided by that website, I just could't tell if some of the pictures where real or rendered.
This is creepy.
Anyway, that tunnel system is amazing, anyone got some information -in english- about it ?

Sure of course you can have fun and graphics, but what sucks is when too much time is spent on the graphics and not enough time is spent on the gameplay.

I see bad graphics and bad game more often than good graphics bad game.
Also, Crimson skies, Jak, Ratchet and Clank, Zelda and more looked incredible and were fun as hell.

I agree. I have had a PS2 and XBox in the past three years. Sold them both. Bought a used Intellivision and one of those controllers you plug into your TV that have old Nintendo games built in. I have played those more than I ever played my PS2 or XBox.

I'll believe that level of depth-of-field and live motion blur when I see it, but that's close to what to expect, unless these are stress shots that just completely push what the system can do and give the impression that all games will look like that, when in reality those are about the limits with those kinds of models and textures. More shaders, new effects, huge textures, amazing models, and long-ass production times: that's your next generation. Hopefully the games are fun.
Looking good, though. I'm looking forward to seeing what Nintendo shows off.

I don't think people have that mentality anymore, I can't think of any game I have ever bought because it looked good.
People are just excited because this PICTURE is all they have to to go on, you don't know if it is a good game or not till reviews come out.

SPOnG can today exclusively blow the lid on Electronic Arts’ next Need for Speed game, detailing the company’s thinking on the leading franchise update for the first time.
The series will ditch the Underground moniker, with the new game carrying the title Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The information, leaked to us last week, states that the multi-platform offering will ship across the world in late 2005.
