Well, the stripped down version which will actually make it to market should run on any new PC. The version with the components that don't work would probably need the computer from the Enterprise-E.

I'm convinced it doesn't actually need a computer...it's really just a joke Microsoft is pulling on everyone.

What's a Longhorn? We only deal with predatory felines around here.

I did a quick search on Google for "Longhorn system requirements."

After checking 4 or 5 threads with people running various current builds of Longhorn, this what I got out of it for "doable" performance.

3GHz P4 (or equivalent) or faster, Hyper-Threading is extremely helpful.
2GB of RAM
10GB of free space
7,200 RPM HD or faster
64MB AGP Video Card, 128MB if you want all the eyecandy.

The impression I got about the performance of Longhorn on the above system, was the equivalent of running OS X on a 233MHz Beige G3.

Suffice it to say, for Longhorn to run at a respectable speed, you really will need whatever computer comes out in 2006.

Plus, that's also assuming Microsoft doesn't include that "trusted hardware" crap forcing you to buy a brand new PC anyway.

Foghorn Leghorn couldn't run very fast, he was a big old fat chicken.

As for a computer to run Longhorn, I don't know, but it probably doesn't exist yet.

Undoubtedly Microsoft will tailor it so that it can scale back appropriately so that they can target as broad an audience as possible.

As for specs...eh, I figure this: Go look at the specs of the hottest games out right now (Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc) and you can gauge it from there.

Thank you for all the replies to my question. the reason i asked was because i

well first of all i dislike windows as much as the next guy here on these forums. I would rather face the on slaught from you guys for asking such a question than to ask on pc forums. that would mean registering to their sites and then getting pummeled by spam.

I believe this is THE best place to ask such a question. heh

anyways... the main reason i asked was because i work for dell and have little to no interest in their products and it finally started to bug me... i sell windows based computers and do not have the slightest clue as to what requirements the next version will have.

thank you,

kino,

p.s.

just working there to get the experience, i hope to be at the apple store in rancho cucamonga by the end of next summer. wish me luck =)

Well, they are waiting for TIGER to come out so they can steal some more ideas, which will push their release date back another two to three years, and my best guess as to the system requirements are as follows:

Quadraphonic CPUs running at 6 ghz each
4 gigs of ram
1 terabyte on the hard drive running at 19,600 rpm with the titanium cage*
1 gigabyte of video ram
and a floppy disk drive... for a boot disk when the whole thing crashes while you load photoshop and attempt to download a file from the internet at the same time.

Microsoft is a company that develops viruses and slaps a label on them like "WIndows"...

I think we have identified the reason for the horrible quality at DELL.... just kidding.

"and do no have the slightest clue as to what requirements the next version (of windows) will have..." Neither does MICROSOFT! ha-ha-ha-ha.

Thanks for the laugh.

A question for you: Why would you care?

Let me put it to you this way, if you work at the Apple store, you better be more devoted to getting info than you are right now
