Easy one this...
Just take a screenshot of your desktop without any windows open and post it up...
Interesting to see people backgrounds (wallpaper) have and how many things people have in the dock and how much crap on the desktop etc...
Obviously i cant post till i get the mac... but i am sure someone can start us off??

A bunch of books, some bills, a telephone, a cup of pans and pencils, an eMac, a printer, mouse, keyboard, a couple woodworking magazines, and a camera. Oh, and some speakers. And a baby monitor.
Now the picture I use for my computer's desktop picture is one of my daughter a few days ago while we were decorating the Christmas tree.

Ok done that...
Heres what i found.
[ URL =http://homepage.mac.com/krusty/.Pictures/desk.jpg] [ img ]http://homepage.mac.com/krusty/.Pictures/deskthumb.jpg[/img]
Obviously i put the spaces in so you could see the code.
Right so i actually need two images... wasnt sure if it made the thumbnail for you.
So i need to upload 2 pics - 1 small and 1 large.
Thats cool I will do a test in a little bit.
OH and this should work on any forum (like this) right?

Yeah, you have to make two images ... thumbnail + your original (not very hard if you have a simple image editor that scales images.). As far as working in any forum ... I have no clue. This is the only forum that I've pasted such images... I would assume something similar for most forums

There's absolutely ZERO reason for this thread. One, it's the lounge, not GUI. Two, there's already a thread on this!

It's not narcissism. It's the fact that a very healthy thread on this already exists and that thread is in the correct forum, the GUI forum and not the lounge.
I can understand someone being new, but there's no need for this thread.

We've had plenty of desktop picture threads in the lounge, there is no reason why he can't post it here. A lot of people don't go to the gui forum. If you don't want to participate in the thread, then don't. It's that easy. That being said, here's mine.

OK, I'll play along. It gave me an excuse to clean up my desktop. I had a hundred or so files on it. When they start wrapping around to the other display, you know it's time to clean house. I wish my room were so easy. Then again, I just did the equivalent of shoving it all under my bed.

I got a program (I think it was called fetchart) that went out and downloaded the album covers for every song in my iTunes library. Then I put the backround to change every 5 minutes on the folder that has all the pictures in it, and the pictures are set to tile on the backround. This is the only thing I would ever want on my backround, its so cool seeing a few hundred album covers on my desktop randomly.

I would never post in the GUI forum because my desktop is running Windows, and I'm sure I would be flamed for it.

I can draw a pretty good stick figure, but other than that, I kinda suck at the art thing. I took that picture at the Syracuse Arts Festival last summer. They have a big sidewalk chalk art contest, with five or six different categories. I don't think that one won anything, but I liked it nonetheless.

Steve, what utility is that running on the desktop? I've got Aquamon on the G4, but the PC lacks that. Better than keeping taskmon/asusprobe open. Also, the Jesus desktop is surprisingly funny, no google results ;-)

The utility is Serious Samurize. There's a ton of different configs you can run and modify, or you can create your own. It's really customizable and low-resource.
I can put the Jesus image up if you'd like .

Heh, sure, I think it looks cool.
Wow, it looks like people are using samurize to replace the taskbar. It looks like a BB4Win or Litestep thing. I used to use those in Win2k so it'd run in multiple threads, not necessary in win2k3....but I'll try it for the stats display. Looks like the configuration is quite similar. Thanks

The image is here.
I actually still use the taskbar (across the top of both monitors) but it's hidden from view. I also have ObjectDock running in the bottom right of the right monitor, for an application launcher etc.
I really like this setup and have been using it for a while. The default Windows setup annoys me.

Thanks, already got a customized setup based on "Falcone 1.2", minus a bunch of stuff that doesn't apply to me, some colours, etc. Just need to install Motherboard Monitor (I prefer SpeedFan/Asusprobe) If you like this, you might want to try the BB4Win or Litestep GUIs, replace explorer using highly customizable modules, some actually look great....I tend to just clone a simpler and very dark explorer interface. They're a bit more complex though, and last I tried, desktop icons ("desktop emulation" they called it) was just beginning.
Just so I can help Re-Rail this thread....

Lol, if I could make the Windows look like OS X without a lot of hacky tacky programs....but that's my Windows "theme", ugly but functional....functional....I actually wish I could do that with OS X, so much white, painful after long use.
Should have done it with VNC, save an image, didn't think of it, I don't actually have one of those double-height monitors I used to see decades ago. I have Firefox set up the same on the Mac, but iCab is my browser here....sticks out a bit though ;-). BTW, yes, MacNN's images have odd looking jagged white halos ;-D

I think you could use something like ShapeShifter to make OS X not so white.
