All this means is that the other game titles will feature stars like Manny Payton (QB for the Gary, Ind. Horsies) and Jeremy Buss (RB/QB the Grove City, PA. Stealers)...

This is a sad day in gaming. I've been boycotting EA ever since they refused to develop for the Dreamcast until this year when I bought a PS2. I bought Madden and ESPN 2K5 because I like football and wanted to compare the two. They are both very good games, but ESPN's graphics are a few notches better. It's sad because the competition made each game better. Well, I'm going back to boycotting EA games. I was going to buy 3 new EA games this Christmas, but not now.

If one thing has been a constant, it's that competition has forced EA to improve Madden over the years. First from Sony on the PS1, then from Sega. This news is terrible. I'll probably only buy hockey games now.

And that's when I'll really be forced to boycott them. The NHL series has fallen way behind lately. From reading more about it though, I don't know if I can really blame EA that much. It looks like the NFL wanted to grant one exclusive license and requested bids. EA was the highest bidder (can't blame them for having the cash). So it's the NFL that probably should receive our hate letters

no one is forcing you to buy ea games, or nfl-licensed games. by being mad about this, and indeed even caring, you are collectively making yourself more beholden to pro sports. if this licensing deal truly angers you, make sure to vote AGAINST the next stadium-funding measure that comes up in your area...

Since EA already makes the best NFL game, this doesn't matter much to me. Looks like EA delivered a bone-crushing blow to ESPN with the hit stick...

On a scarier note for these same publishers, rumors are already circulating that EA is attempting to negotiate similar deals with the NBA and Major League Baseball. When IGN contacted Trudy Muller, spokesperson for Electronic Arts about these rumors, she told us: "We cannot speculate at this time about any further plans these other leagues may have."
interesting...i don't play video games so i couldn't care less but i think this is kind of gay. is this the reason why they had 'QB Whatever" in Tecmo Super Bowl (loved that game growing up)

If you think it's the best NFL game you must have not played Sega's NFL 2K5 or earlier. They had online play like 6 years ago, not to mention better controls and graphics.
I think this is horrible news and I'm severely disappointed by both the NFL and EA, both of which will be receiving a letter from me telling them to go f*ck themselves.

I've played NFL 2K5 (I bought it because it was $20) and NFL 2K2. Madden is better... and I don't even think it's that close.
