First things first, I must apologise. I have been lurking here at MacNN since 1999 or 2000. I feel bad for not contributing to such an amazing source of info, help and amusement.

I was a bid bored at work today so thought I might finally register and actually reply to a few things. Turned out I had actually registered back in 2001. I thought at the time that it had not worked. Can't remember why I had thought that.

Not too sure why I have lurked for so long. I have been involved in other forums before. I guess I thought that I might just get too involved in the MacNN world when I could be doing other things. I spend enough time reading it let alone if I was actually posting as well. My wife has seen me looking here so much and has always asked me why I wasn't posting here.

So, finally, I have decided to try and give something back to the site that has given me so much over the years. Not sure that what I have to offer is any good but I guess I can only try! I don't see myself being that prolific of a poster though.

There have been some great memories over the years, too many to remember actually. Here's a few that come to mind at the moment;

Witnessing Cash in all his guises,
The saga of PowerBookDude,
The ebb and flow of certain posters,
My fellow Australian Cipher and his smashing of the 10000 post barrier,
Debates on stars and post counts,
Debates on sigs and images (IMO this makes this one of the easiest forums to navigate. It nearly induces fits looking at some other forums with there half-screen-height animated sigs)
The opening of the poli lounge,
Reactions to numerous elections and world events,
The rise of Zimph,
Speculations for Mac Worlds and the like,
and the rest.

There have been some amazingly captivating stories on relationship trouble, work problems, money problems, great ideas and some fantastic bickering.

The reason I wanted to post this was not to make a big fuss, but to thank you guys. In the future, I will try not to be too familiar with some of you regulars. I might "know" you but you haven't had the luxury of observing me for months or years!

Thanks and see you around,

Jeb

I also do lots of lurking but no where near as much as the Lurker King

If I had posted in at least half of the threads I read I would be up there with SimeyTheLimey and gorickey.

Me too. I often begin a post, get distracted by work, come back to it and realize my interest has waned. Said post never sees light of day.

I used to lurk around here. I've been reading these forums for about a year, mostly the Powerbook forum, I thought the Lounge was boring.

Then one day I saw the baseball thread in the lounge, and thats when I decided to join. Which kind of explains my name.

Firstly, I'm not a barman! Am a consultant to the Immigration area of government over here. Hehe, I always find that sort of ironic...

How could I not remember gorickey. Best-Retirement-Post-Ever.

Always been a fan of you PurpleGiant. Even though you are from down south...

Zimph - you have to be stoked you got a mention in my memories list.

bradoesch - Over the years, MacNN has had its ups and downs - as far as the Lurker King goes here (do I sound like a tosser [been here in the UK too long!] by adopting that nick name?) the last couple of months have seen a bit of a rennaisance here in the forum. We are witnessing people being complimentary to each other, some good personal posts and reasonably little of some of the petty bickering that has plagued the place earlier this year. Not too sure if I am qualified to comment on this but I think the end of US election season has helped. Also - you trying to suggest I might try and boost my boast count by replying to these posts!

I guess the biggest thing I would hopefully like to show is that low post counts do not always mean that person has nothing worth while to say. It may be true in some (or many) cases and some might think it true here as well, but some of us "newbies" have some worth while input. This is one of the things that stopped me from registering/posting over the years. I was afraid that no one here would listen to me I guess. Grew out of that a while ago and finally got off my a5se and started posting. So far seems like a great move!

Off to bed and also need to restart after updating to 10.3.7

ps my wife thinks all you guys are nice!

Warning: The political lounge can bite. It's kind of like licking that frozen rocket pop on the fourth. "Looks good…goddamnitallthehell! I'm stuck on it!"

I've lurked for awhile in the GUI forums. I never bothered posting. MacNN probably has the most up to date GUI news (themes, etc.) on the web. You get to see the hype and everything. And you get some sweet icons that never make it onto the big GUI sites. Like the Lutetium icons.

Have fun, but remember: wait 60 minutes before you enter.

Heh, lots of stuff on this board I remember. I usually didn't post much, there were so many posters that the easy questions were answered pretty damn fast, the funny knee-jerk answers were certainly given at blinding speed ;-)

Been posting a lot more lately, I guess I've been around long enough to know some answers. I used to use the forums as a source of news, links to new happenings, advice, but I've since found other sources. Right now, the boards are useful to me to see what problems update xyz brings. It's a good (or easy) place to argue, I've been having trouble getting answers though ;-)

Ah, the memories are flooding back!

My wife is, surprisingly, real. She is actually English (stealing the local women hehe) so it is always fun when patriotic things come up.

I have annoyed her with Apple related tales for so long she is now fully converted. All her friends dig her pink iPod Mini. Guys, if you want to be in the good books, there are not many women that would not be happy with a pink iPod Mini!

I was out at a Christmas party last night and was trying to make some switches. One guy was asking me about a New Toshiba laptop and how great it is blah blah. I asked him what he wanted to do. He said "Music, Photos, bit of Vid editing and web, email and a bit of office". What a prime candidate for a Mac! But he didn't want to hear it.

Luckily there was a bit of good news. One of my collegues who I have been working on for about a year now has seen the light. He makes music (has a recording deal and is supposed to be pretty big in the underground scene) and had just built a PC. Only reason he did it was the studios he was going to were all PC earlier this year. Now they have all conveted to Mac and he is finding the in-stability and latency extremely annoying. Next deal he gets he is coming over to the good side!

Not sure if I can count him yet but that would make about eight or nine switchers for me!

SuperChicken - there have been times when I have so wanted to comment on something but I didn't quite make it!

Latency from the Mac or latency from the PC?

Sorry, should have made that clear. He is finding the latency bad on his PC. He had to pull out of doing a live gig as it is near impossible to mix and alter stuff on the fly with that latency and even if he could, he said that the setup is to unstable. This is a kick ass P4 3.6 with 2GB RAM running the latest version of Cubase as well. In the studio (now on Macs) he has been able to do everything he wants to do and more in real time. That shows that it is not always the numbers that shows the better machine.

He said that Logic has just completly taken over in the last year or so. Audio production is not really my arena but I will listen to the professional!
