Okay, so I'm currently trying to wrap up, box, and ship gifts to family and friends. Aside from braving the holiday crowds at the department stores, finding appropriate gifts, paying the $$$ (which is ALWAYS more than you expect - especially when you add it all up later on), dragging your booty home, peeling price tags off, giftwrapping it, finding boxes (which may involved going out to buy boxes - another trip and more $$$) to ship the gift in, driving it to the post office or shipping company (FedEx or UPS), waiting in line, then paying to have it sent off...I'm in the holiday spirit!
And before any of you smart*sses make a "gift card is good" comment, please understand that I already realize that, but a gift card is also sometimes impersonal. It's nice to get a giftwrapped gift delivered to your home to put under the tree.
I love to give gifts...but I wish I had Santa's elves to help me.

Likes: giving- making people happy- finding just the right gift- spending time with people who feel the spirit of Christmas- original Christmas songs
Dislikes: forgetting how soon Christmas is- thinking I have to buy obligatory gifts- people at the mall who act like it is a surprise that they have to park far or wait in line- HELLO!?!- lack of snow
Personally this year. I'm only buying gifts for 5 family members and 2 co-workers. We have spent the rest of time MAKING gifts. Whoever doesn't appreciate the effort and care pur into it- I don't give a crap. I feel good and happy about the gifts we have made and I have chosen the recipients carefully.

I plan to do the same. It sucks, as I get older, the holidays seem to be... oh so happy and great. However, when living far from family and friends, and in between shallow girlfriends that have great bodies, the season can seem a bit gloomy.

Dislike: It isn't cold where I live for very long. But it starts right around now. I'm freezing and miserable. The getting home after dark thing everyday doesn't help.
Like: Well, this year and last are exceptions, but for the prior 10 or so, the holidays almost always meant a nice trip -- Usually fishing/canoeing/camping around in the Keys or Everglades.
Like: I like getting gifts for my loved ones. The older I get the better I seem to get at it as far as knowing what someone will really like
Dislike: Most of what I get goes straight to a closet somewhere. I can't remember the last time I got a gift that really knocked my socks off.

Likes: NCAA Football Bowls, Decorating the Christmas Tree, Putting up Lights, Snow Falling, and the Giving.
Dislikes: When my team loses an NCAA Football Bowl Game, Setting up the Christmas Tree and hoping it doesn't fall down, Putting up lights that must be "straight and nice and tidy", Dirty snow filled with sand/salt, and the Giving the right gift to the right person since they are all wrapped the same.

Likes:
- forced happiness.
- seeing the decorations
- buying, wrapping, exchanging gifts with people I care about
- food
- time off work
Dislikes:
- forced gift exchanging with coworkers (thank goodness we don't do it this year)
- people groaning about how much Christmas sucks only because it's the "anti-popular" thing to do
- religious zealots who insist Christmas should only be about celebrating the birth of Christ. If it was, we'd have it in June, and there'd be no gifts, christmas trees, time off work, etc.
- people complaining that "it's gotten too commercial". No, it hasn't gotten anything. People have. Most people go shopping after Christmas to buy what they didn't get for Christmas anyway. That's got nothing to do with the holiday, but everything to do with people wanting more stuff. If you don't want Christmas to be commercial, don't buy stuff. I'd be just as happy if a loved one made me something, or gotten me something cheap just because they thought I'd like it.
- people being rude in crowded stores. Of course it's crowded, but that's no reason to be rude and pushy. Just wait your turn!
- people expecting a certain "dollar amount" for a gift. Tough. I'll buy you something because I think you'll like it.

Ok. Holidays to me refers to Hanukkah rather than Christmas, so here goes (although most of my dislikes center around christmas)
Likes:
Being with family for a religous festival.
Making people happy... the whole coming-home-for-one-night did that
Getting swag. No, I am not an asthetic.
Dislikes:
Bloody christmas musak in every bloody store I go into between Thanksgiving and New Year's... just really pisses me off
|

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.
