I've been re-watching the start of the show. There is a scene were the plane has crashed on the beach and is in pieces.. The engines are still running and creating enough thrust to suck someone into them.. how likely is that to happen in reality? I know that we have some pilots on this board.. Thanks for the info

If somehow the power to the engines remained "on" its possible but unlikely in a crash such as that one.

i'm watching it too; i only saw bits and pieces the first time around and had missed that part. i'd deem it unlikely but certainly possible. since jet engines operate on the 'suck-squish-bang-blow' principle, i suppose it's possible that the thing which makes them go could continue to occur even in such a catastrophic situation. the engines need electric power or forced air from the ground or from an auxiliary power unit to start the compressors from a standstill (the 'suck' part). but since the compressor fans were still turning, that part was taken care of, as was the 'squish' the only other thing that would need to occur would be for it to still be receiving fuel; which may or not require a functioning pump. but if it can get fuel, the turbines which extract power back from the 'bang' can power the compressors that 'suck'. i'm sure it's more complex than that, and i got a D in my propulsion class anyway, but i suppose it's possible.

good show either way...
