We haven't had one of these in awhile, and I've been on an anti-RIAA downloading frenzy lately so I thought I'd start the bidding at
4024 songs
So tell me - how big is your wang?**
**Once again, 'wang' refers to iTunes music collection.

Why don't you just say music collection?
Anyway, I know I won't be even close but I'm at 7,475 right now.

37,63% of my music in iTunes is illegal. If that is what you want to know. But I got more than 4x the amount in legal music.

Your math needs work.
About 1,000 of my songs are from the iTMS. I'd say that I have about 6 from online means, the rest rips.

4502 songs, 21.35 GB.
About 4000 ripped from CDs, and the rest a mix of bummed offa friends/downloaded with Aquisition or bought from iTunes. I have a fair number of CDs that I've picked up (used-- I'm boycotting the RIAA) as a result of liking a download, so it's really hard to say how much is actually illegal)
Also, I've got quite a few mp3s that were legally downloaded from band's websites as promos. I find almost all of my new music on the web these days, unless it's something I'm turned on to by a friend, and most of that likely comes from the web, too.

Why does it need work ? All my illegal songs are MP3s, the rest is AAC, 1/3 of my music ON MY COMPUTER is MP3 --> illegal. The rest, the other 7000 or so are rips, which is already 2x the number of illegal songs and then add to that the music that I have not ripped (yet) and you get about 4x. That 3/4 in my first post whas just a rough number it's closer to 1/2. So my math isn't 100% correct but it's good enough, I wasn't talking about iTunes only. If it comes down to iTunes only then yes that number of 4x becomes 2x. Or am I missing something ?

I don't buy MP3s, so these are all downloads except for 20 songs:
and those are just the ones I've already listened to.
EDIT: if there's a problem loading the image, it's 25592 songs, 71.5 days, 137.95 GB. And just got bigger by 4.3 GB last night when I backed up the most recent batch of music

Why not start a thread about who has the most illegal software, or is that taboo or something, and it's only acceptable to talk about downloaded mp3's that one didn't pay for.

I have a few downloaded MP3s myself, so I'm not arguing the right or wrong of anything here, but don't give me any crap about MP3s that people download being legal. The vast majority that people download is illegal.
I'm sure there's a few "legal" MP3s that can be downloaded, but if one looks at people's drives they will find "U2", "Eminem" etc. and not some crappy, free legal MP3 that was downloaded from some noname band.
I'm just curious why it's ok to talk about downloading MP3s, while it's taboo most places to talk about downloaded software. It's the same thing.

5228 songs, 13.3 days, 26GB all on my ipod.
theres maybe a GB on my ibook, but those are probably duplicates of whats on the pod.
theres another 10GB or more of MP3s backed up to CD-R, and a good amount of CDs that havent been ripped, and a good 3 feet of vinyl that could be converted over to the digital world.

All legal CD rips of my collection and iTunes downloads. Got rid of my crappy illegal downloads long ago when I purged my Mac of "Trial" software. Yeah, I guess I got a conscience.

At my work, our Campus Library now totals about 11,000 songs. Couple of weeks of no-repeat, nonstop music. It's pretty nice.

Mostly reggae and dub, which is hardly representative of my entire cd collection, just what I'm listening to at the moment, with a little african, italian and other stuff thrown in.

800 songs, 10GB.
Maybe 10% is illegal. But the way I have it worked out, I listen to the music for about a month or so, then if it has staying power, I go dole out the money for the tangible CD. Most are 128 kbps, so I can tell the difference. I'd like to get more CDs, but my money supply is right of 0 at the moment.
Let's see what CDs I have:
Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabotage, Vol 4, Heaven and Hell, Tales from the Twilight World, A Night at The Opera, Deep Purple In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Made In Japan, Texas Flood, Couldn't Stand The Weather, Iced Earth, Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, Something Wicked Comes This Way, Horror Show, The Glorious Burden, The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Electric Ladyland, Sin After Sin, Stained Class, British Steel, Painkiller, Led Zep I, Led Zep II, Led Zep III, ZoSo, Houses of the Holy, Physical Grafitti, Presence, Killing is My Business…And Business is Good, Peace Sells…But Who's Buying, So Far…So Good…So What!, Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, …And Justice for All, The Black Album, Live ****: Binge and Purge, No Sleep til Hammersmith, Ace of Spades, Hammered, Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Mutter, Show No Mercy, Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss.
57 purchased CDs. I need more.

Hard to say off the top of my head, but a lot. If I count only full albums or eps and do not include any soundtracks or multi-artist compilations, the total Artist count is 890. But that only counts the stuff I have backed up already.

7860 Songs, 22:10:28:53 playing time, 37.59gb
This excludes about 8 gigs of live bootleg rap and half that of misc techno I got off a buddy that I never listen to. I recieved about 60 gigs of music from him at that time and have since thrown away about half. I don't keep mp3-rerips (a rip from an mp3 cd burn), nor anything with a sample rate below 44.4khz nor anything with a bit rate below 112kbit/sec. My Audigy2 sound card and Klipsch speakrs just highlight the lossy quality so painfully they are exorcised with extreme prejudice.

Thats about right. I do file sharing the old fashioned way. "Hey, can I borrow that CD?"
Actually, I'm seeing 192kbit becoming the new defacto standard. There are still a lot of 128kbit files out there though. Friggin 128...
[edit] I ran some numbers, approximating 22.4 days for 22 days 10 hours..., and my average bit rate is about 155kbit.
