Well my moms Technics CD player bought in 1999 died 5 Disc caracell (again) the last one a 6 disc cartridge Pioneer (?) died at that point which was bought December 1991. She thinks spending $80 US ($100 CDN) on a Yamaha which a friend just now said is top of the line is the way to go. I think it won't last 3 years. Most of her CD's (150 so far) are in Apple Lossless on her DP 1.25 GHZ upstairs, but airport cards are now a whapping $175 for B version. and she doesn't want to go upstairs to change the music.
Any ideas? I was not planning to move to computer based music player for a couple more years for her, but now... Advice needed fast. She is trying to buy now (since she's on the road on the other Island which has a store).

I say that you mother should buy they Yamaha CD player and then move to a computer based music system when it dies. I just have one question.. does your mother's Mac have a FW800 port? If so, it is one of the Aiport Extreme models and you can just buy a $79 card to put in there...

As I said she has 802.11b (we both have same systems DP1.25GHZ June 2003 model). So the card is $159 Canadian+$179 for Airport Express, total $390 CDN including taxes. Just realized the Microwave and 2.4GHZ cordless. no houses around so her network should be secure (crap she's going to freak once she knows people could have access to her files Yikes even securing it may not be enough for her).
After talking to her again 15 minutes ago, she seems to be thinking about the idea.

Maybe it's about time you check her into a hospital if this is the second time she's died.

802.11g PCI cards are around US $30. Many of them will work with current 10.3.x Airport drivers.
