It is the ability to take my iPod, make a playlist, and then go to school w/o hearing anything around me, even the subway. It's so relaxing... or when I don't want to hear the idiots beside me... I can turn my iPod on and *boom* they're just gone and I can concentrate on the stuff that matters to me.
Thank you in-ear noise canceling earphones.
It comes at a price but sound peace is priceless to me -- I'd be willing to bet it makes me a more enjoyed and enjoyable person.
Thaz all, folks!

I'll bet those people are thankful that you don't talk to them either.
You sound like a real joy to be around.

You sound like a real joy to be around.
You started any derailment that may ensue.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to get away from the noise and hussle of the big city.
I also enjoy being able to drown it out now and again.

No, no it wasn't. You just saw an easy target.
Just pointing it out that you do it too...

Explain how please.
The title is something that is important to him and the body of his post reflects that.

On topic however, speaking of cancelling noise out, does anyone here have experience with the Sony MDR-EX81s?
Thinking of picking myself up a pair...the Apple in-ear one's are a huge disappointment.

The Apple ones aren't too bad for me. You just need to make a good "seal," and that is quite tricky to do some of the time.
The Bose ones are absolutely ridiculous though. A guy bought one a few weeks ago and he came back just to rave as to how awesome they were because we told him that no one had really told us how great they worked in airplanes. Unfortunately they cost 300 dollars.

It took me a long 30 minutes to really understand how Apple's worked... you have to push them deep deep down your ear, really... otherwise the bass is like non-existant and you can ear the noise around you.. once they're deep down there... wow... I don't even ear the subway.
Incredible value... it's a total new experiment for me, especially in a big city... you're exposed to all kinds of noises you just don't want to hear on a monday morning or after a hard day - see what I mean?
Anyway it's just my own personal pleasure. The Apple ones do an outstanding job.
Kilbey: I love you too.

been using in ear earbuds since sony came out with the ex50 .. the fontopia special edition i think.
very similar to the ex51 and the 71's but they looked the best imho.
the sound ... you cant beat it at that price .. now they are even cheaper .. around 25 on amazon.

meh. I like the standard apple 'buds. They're loud, they can have the crap beat out of them and they look pretty good... and the cable does not tangle as badly as my sony buds did...

I don't remember the model, but my wife tried a pair of Sonys - they were about $120, if I remember correctly. She returned them - they were crappy on the bus - it just couldn't deal with the start and stopping of the bus engine. It sounded like someone was turning the volume on her iPod up and down constantly.
Maybe they only work where there's constant noise like airplanes.

There was a thread here on how the Bose are the worst of the noise-cancelling ones for a variety of reasons.
This holds for Bose in any category of audio product, though.
