Hi all. My girlfriend is headed to the states for the next semester of college. She's using a Dell so I intend to use Trillion on her machine to video and audio conference with my Mac and iChat AV.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good webcam with descent microphone for her setup. I'm using an iSight so I'd like something of similar quality interms of sound and picture.I'd Also like to avoid any audio echo problems with the conferenceing so if anyone has any tips that would be great.

All help appreciated

P.S
The simpler it is the better, she's not t he most tech savvy person in the world.

I got a Logitech QuickCam Zoom off eBay for like $15 shipped. It works fine with iChat as long as you install iChatUSBCam.

I see that Trillian 3 (recently released) is supposed to work with iChatAV (at least, in its Pro version) for video conferencing. Does anyone know if this actually works in practice? Or, more generally, if there are any options for Windows to iChatAV which people have positive experience with.

I think this query is relevant enough to include in this thread. I don't have any experience of Windows webcams.

I have no experience, and therefore no positive experience, with this, but AIM for Windows supports video and audio conferencing with iChat users.

I don't believe that audio only chats are supported, yet audio in video chats is.

You should talk here into an iBook with iSight. That way problem solved.

While AIM does support video conferencing with iChat users, the video window is so small as to be pretty much pointless.

iVisit works well enough and is cross platform. The basic version if free but has a small-ish window. The paid version has a higher res window. Give the free version a try. iVisit also supports "chatrooms" of up to 8 people at once .. which can be handy.

If you don't wanna work with cameras all the time, Skype is also cross platform and has FAR AND AWAY the best audio of any voice chat app I've used. You can even mute whatever video chat you use and do the sound part thru Skype if you want.

Yahoo instant messenger also has dual platform support.

As for webcams, anymore?

Apparently Trillion supports Video and Audio conferencing with iChat. If anyone has any experience with this I'd love to hear from them
