In exactly two weeks I leave for Sun Peaks BC (just outside kamloops). Have any of you ever been there before? Just curious what your impressions were. I have free lift tickets and CHEAP lodging so whistler, banff etc are out of the question. On a side note, I got an iPod for my birthday this year and let me tell you, it takes snowboarding to a whole new level.....I had no idea.

I've skied there once, two years ago I think. It's a nice hill, but when I was there it was about -25 C, so it was a painful experience. I prefer Silver Star myself, but Sun Peaks is great too.. just not as much advanced stuff.

The village is nice as well; I think you'll enjoy it.

nice village is good...I have only been riding for three seasons and am not super advanced anyway, I do hope there are some challenging runs though. I was also considering doing the snow cat boarding from the top of mount tod. have you done that and is it worth the $200? Any good local bars/attractions that are "not to be missed"? with 117 runs and three mountains, I hope it isbetter than "a nice hill".

hah, yeah.. poor wording on my part. When you live in the mountains, you tend to (or at least I do) refer to them all as hills. It really is a great mountain, with a lot of good intermediate/advanced terrain. I'm not sure about the mount tod cat boarding; it could be awesome though with good snow and nice weather.

I'm definitely not the best person to ask about the mountain though. Like I said, it was -25 when I was there, and in the summer when mountain biking I managed to get two flat tires. I've just had some bad luck

The mountain is definitely great though. In the last 5-10 years they have done amazing work up there expanding the trails, adding lifts, and building up the village. It isn't as big as Whistler/Blackcomb, but it's cheaper and has shorter lift lines, with arguably just as good skiing and even better snow. The powder here in the interior is great..

Cool!! Thanks...I'm even more exited now. This will be my first trip "out west", as they say here (western NC). I am used to riding on sheets of ice here. It does bring a healthy respect to getting your edges right, and not falling on what might as well be pavement sometimes.

Interesting. I've lived in BC for the past decade and this is the first I've heard of Sun Peaks, haha.

Have a great time in our beautiful province!

Thanks....their website claims that they are the second largest ski area in BC (next to whistler)
BTW...I've heard that the recreation vegitation is legal in BC...any truth to the rumor? eh?
Also, should I have my $$ converted to canadian or do most places accept the US dollar straight out?
