Although the exact contents of my liquor cabinet may vary, the following list of spirits, at a minimum, will be stocked in adequate supply at all times:

1. Bacardi Light Rum
2. Jose Cuervo Especial Tequila
3. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey
4. Vodka
5. Bailey's Irish Cream
6. Gin
7. A quality 12 year old Scotch Whisky

Discuss. Post yours.

(picture is a bit old. spirits may vary)

at the very least we usually have
  • tequila (mostly for margaritas)
  • 3+ different types of rum
  • whiskey
  • midori
  • triple sec
  • bailey's
  • cheap vodka
  • expensive vodka (in the freezer)
  • flavored vodka
  • amaretto
  • kahlua
  • mixers
  • weird flavored spirits (peppermint, apple, chocolate, etc..)
  • and plenty of wine, of course

Anything else is optional for me. The ten year old is excellent, although when I'm feeling flush, or at the airport, I generally get the 17 year old.

White wines (American, Australian, Spanish) as long as they're not chardonnay. Sauvingon blanc or others are far superior. Red wines: nothing from South Africa (I don't like earthy and tannin rich reds), a few Mendoza (Argentinian), Chile, Spain, Australia.

One has to have these at the ready to even begin to discuss the hard liquor.

Must haves in the liquor cabinet:

• Stolishnaya vodka
• Ron Bacardi carta blanca
• Bombay Saphire gin
• Havana Club 12 años
• Johnnie Walker black label
• the Bols series of liquor
• Jose Cuervo Especial Tequila

Also keep close various sorts of juice and a bottle of grenadine. You'll go far.

I don't drink.

My wife like to have some Woodford Reserve, red wine, and white wine.

1. Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray 10 Gin
2. Six packs of Schweppes Tonic
3. Limes

That seems to do the trick.

As for the scotch, make sure it's single malt. None of that blended junk.

Yes sir! That's the GOOD STUFF. Best single malt I've ever had.

Don't forget to toss in a few cases of McEwan's Scotch Ale. Best beer I've ever had.

I'm just a poor student and therefore wildly expensive or exotic beverages do not interest me/fit in my budget. However, I always pick up an Appleton Estate Extra when I'm breaking the bank. It's a really great rum (aged up to 18 years) that's fairly smooth but has a bit of a woody flavour (or something) that gives it some bite (hey, I'm not an expert by any means). I've always wanted to try the Appleton 21 year blend, but it's fairly rare and when I do see it it's always out of my price range.

Anyways, that gets my rum nod...it's about $30-$35 for a 750mL (the ubiquitous 26er, for those of you still in the Stone Age ) bottle at most places, and I think it's damn worth it.

On another note, the new(er) Ciclón is also quite good...it's a mix of Bacardi Gold and Blue Agrave Tequila, and extremely smooth. It's definitely worth trying for a different sort of taste, and the bottle looks gorgeous.

my apartment's rule is generally to have a good bottle of the basics (Tanqueray, good vodka, some bacardi, etc) and then a cheap-o bottle (ie "vladimir's specialy vodka") for mixing with other stuff.

oh, and maker's mark, that's all you really need at least for me

Richard Hennessy is so not worth it. Sure it tastes good but it's not worth the price. You pay a lot for the nice bottle tough
