This may seem stupid, but I am having trouble finding CD-RWs that are fast and compatible with macs. For example, i just bought a case of HP high speed CD-RWs and when I insert the disc into the iBook, the comp doesn;t recognize the disc. There is no indication on the outside of what OSs the discs are compatible with. Does anyone know of a fast and mac-compatible CD-RW brand??

Never had a problem with my TiBook here. I've used all kinds. From TDK to no name.

Rw's are really a bad idea to begin with.

I bought a 5 pack of rw's once because it sounded like a good idea to be able to re-use it over and over... but its more of a pain in the ass than its worth... buy cd-r's in bulk and their disposable.

Yep! probably not good for the environment to dispose of so many, but that's what Mars is for!

You might have bought a speed rating too high for your particular machine. Happens with some Ultra-Speed CDRWs. Your drive (you don't say which Mac you have) may not accept Ultra-Speed CDRWs.

Yup. With CD-RW, you must match the CD-RW write speed of your drive to that of the discs. Slower discs won't work, nor will faster ones.

For example, most of the CD-RW discs I see out there are 1x-4x, which won't work with my CD-RW drive's 12x CD-RW maximum write speed -- the 4x discs only write at 4x. 6x-12x (CD-RW "high speed") discs work, but the 16x and faster (CD-RW "ultra speed") discs won't.

Note that this is a hardware problem that will affect any computer and operating system.

This is exactly why they suck. If you burn one for yourself it might not work on someone else's computer. If you upgrade it might not work on the new computer.

Forget them and just stick with CD-R

Well, supposedly, the limitations are only for writing. They say (I've never bothered to try) that once written, any speed CD-RW disc will read in all CD-RW compatible drives.

Actually, they are purely organic and wil break down cleanly.

It just takes a very long time. But they are not harmful to the environment as people think.

They would make a great ski hill for instance!
