No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Scientist is great, "wins the world cup" is also awesome.
Besides him I really like, King Tubby's productions, Culture, Israel Vibration, Michael Rose, Eek-A-Mouse.. and of the most recent performers, Sizzla, and Capleton.

I loved reggae in the 70s but haven't heard anything I like in many years. I don't know if this is because I got old and cranky or because the genre ran its course - probably some of each. Anyway, in case you haven't heard it, the essential album IMO is Jimmy Cliff's The Harder They Come soundtrack - even people who claim to hate reggae love that record. From there, you go to Toots & the Maytals (my favorites - get a good compilation), The Mighty Diamonds (Right Time), The Heptones, Burning Spear (Marcus Garvey). There's Marley, of course, but he was never my favorite, although the Wailers' early stuff is excellent.
Toots wasn't considered to be as hip as Marley, but he's always been my favorite.

did you leave the 's' off of likes off on purpose in the thread title ? If so, it is common to append 'mon' to the end of your phrase.

I prefer dub. I also prefer that the lyrics not suck (like in all music). Constant and seemingly random shouts of "Jah!" get annoying after a while, yanno.

Post some iTunes links of "good" reggae. I've never listened to it really, but hey, I'm bored.

Listen to the stream from kexp.org on Saturday mornings. They play some VERY good reggae on that show.

I don't. But it is a common fad to pretend you do. Almost everyone and their grandma has a Bob Marley shirt. Of course, these are them same people who frequent Hot Topic stores and couldn't tell you why Achilles Last Stand was an awesome song. Über Pösers.
It's sad when bands are defamed by fades. Hell, if Led Zeppelin and Marley got it bad, then AC/DC's reputation has been destroyed.

I listen to quite a bit of dub. Alpha and Omega, Augustus Pablo, Dub Syndicate, Keith Hudson, King Tubby, Mad Professor, Scientist.... to name a few faves. I love dub, it's unpretentious and pure. Lyrics are far and few between but often cover much more than the usual song subject matter (I love you/hate you). From listening to dub I've received tips on a wide range of topics, from new foods to try to car maintenance advice.

Indeed I did. However I left it as it is, as I tried to steady the level of my pretentiousness. It was a spare of the moment decision and I didn't dwell on it as much as some people reading this thread have. Seen?

Zimphire, I love Bad Brains, but they're hardly Reggae, dreads and ganja smoking and all.
I love reggae, dub, dancehall, rocksteady, ska...
My favorite reggae group is by far Steel Pulse. Oh what a great band...
As for dub, well, everything fro Aswad to Zion Train.
edit: my favorite scientist album is heavyweight dub champion.
