For about 3 years I have always had Sony Cliés, I started with the one that was not a color screen, then moved on to a color screen, then finally to a built in keyboard, camera, voice recorder, and mp3 player...

But alas, Sony no longer has these products available in the United States.

If I could I would still use the later one, but I dropped it and the screen cracked. Trying to find another screen has proved useless and I guess its time to put it to retirement.

Well its time to buy another, but palm is dying....

I was looking at the Dell Axim, but its Dell, and well... i don't know if i want to buy anything that is made by that company. I guess I'm used to Sony's and their quality product not Dell's.

Any suggestions on what pda, or pocket pc i should buy next?

I have a Dell Axim X3. I got it for $50 bucks, and I love it.

It works great, has an SD card, connects wirelessly to my neighbor's WiFi, and looks sexy docked next to my Soundsticks/Powermate/Studio Display.

Having said that, I don't think, in my situation, it'd be something I'd buy new, especially taht it's a Dell. but it is a nice product. solid.

I'd go for a Palm - what does a PocketPC do that a Palm doesn't?

If you must use a PocketPC, go for an HP.

I wouldn't go for an HP anything.

FWIW the Palm stuff is far superior. (Check out the Tungstens)

BUT: If a PocketPC is a must look at the Dell Axims. They even have some models now that support full VGA (640x480)
- iMac 3.2Ghz 1TB - MacBook Pro 15" Core i7 2.3Ghz / 256SSD (Work laptop)
- PowerMac G5 - Dual 2.0 Ghz, 3GB, Soundsticks!,
- Lenovo Thinkpad T510 (also a work laptop), Win 7 Enterprise, 8GB, 320GB HDD

My PocketPC experience has only been with the Compaq (now HP) line of iPaqs. Sadly it seems the merger muddied the product a bit, but there are still some sleek looking models.

Brighthand has some great PDA reviews, PocketPC and Palm.

As much as I hate Dell, their Pocket PC line is impressive, especially in price. You can get models with 624MHZ processor, WiFi and Bluetooth built in, in a relatively small size (takes SD, not Compact Flash) for under $300, sometimes less when they're on sale. It's insane how they can offer so much for so less while HP doesn't even come close. I feel like Dell can't be making much money off these things if none of their competitors (even Palm) can offer so much hardware for that price.

Handhelds in general aren't doing too well. Sony has excited the Palm market in North America which was quite a blow. The latest Palm offerings is too little too late, same goes for the OS6 which is turning out to be a copland.

connected to my G4, the Axim charges in it's base station, syncs with iTunes, iPhoto, Safari, iCal, reads word docs, surfs wirelessly, and views .wmv flicks (and others if you get the shareware progs).

and does a bunch of other cool stuff.

I've never used Palm, but I actually enjoy this OS. Haven't encountered any problems with it
