I'm looking for something similar to this, less the $1200 price tag. I mean seriously, $1200? Anyway, I'd like something w/ similar compartments to store my stereo equipment, the little cut-outs in the back for wiring, and a flat surface to center my plasma on. Something very low to the ground (wider than taller) and modern looking. Any suggestions?

I use this one for my set from ikea and for $100 you can't argue.

That looks like it'd work. Are the number of compartments adjustable? As in, could I set it up with 6 slots for my equipment? Do you have the name so I can look it up online?
And to open a whole new can of worms...What type of TV do you have? I mentioned above already having a plasma, but I'm actually about 3 days away from ordering a 50" Panasonic. My reasoning, I'm low on space in my condo and want to save as much space as possible. Plus, having a flat screen is just cool. :-)
*EDIT*
Found it online. It'd have worked, but they only offer it in their super light wood and I've heard trying to re-stain Ikea furniture is generally a nightmare.

Hey, here is my TV, it is a DLP set and I found the picture to be the best out of all the types of technologies out there.

As for re-staining, I don't think that will work as it is not real wood but made to look just like real wood. It comes with 2 shelves but you can adjust them. It used to come in black and is really popular for flatscreens.
This is also a nice shelf from ikea:

There's a monster thread about plasma furniture at avsforum
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=416358
Why not wall mount it? That's the whole point of getting a plasma. If you're just going to set it on atop a console you might as well buy a DLP and save your self a bunch of cash.

You normally have to buy a $300 wall mount kit plus you got all the ugly wires running down the wall unless you punch a hole in the wall.

I had a shelf much like that one before I got the current one. It was awful as from anything but straight on you could see the sides of the app and all other components which is really ugly, not to mention all the mess of wires.

Again it is nice but the sides are open, you have to picture lots of ugly audio gear side exposed.

For $1200 you could buy your own table saw, planer, full set of hand tools, clamps, glue, and all of the wood you'd need and more.
With this you could make it yourself and take pride in it.
It would be higher quality and be completely custom to exatly what you would need.
Or you could buy an Ikea made piece of crap covered in fake wood-looking plastic. And have more money left over to buy more Ikea made crap.
Your choice.

You mean unmotivated.
I can understand not owning the required space a table saw requires, but really it's not all that much.

I have this TV stand, part of the Woodbrook line from Sanus Systems:
... although I have glass inserts in the doors instead of wood. It's expensive, but it's great quality, solid wood (except for some interior pieces), sophisticated-looking attractive design.
Here's the same piece w/o doors (which are optional):
