yeah, heard that from like 5 different people today. calling to wish me merry christmas? well, they diid say it. but followed by the season's greeting was a "umm, oh, duude! i got an iPod!.. can you like, talk me thru setting it up?"

they want help on playlist creating. they wanna go to all their buddies homes and swap music. they want to know how long it's gonna take to format. to charge. to transfer files.

what does 'this' mean? what does 'that' mean?

these people know I don't currently even own an iPod (I did). these people knew I was at work when they called. and they were insistent.

and truthfully, I've never even *seen* an iPod plugged into a PC in real-life.

formatting? I don't think I formatted my 10 gig 2g iPod. I think I charged it and it worked.

playlists? come sit at MY computer with me and let's look thru my iTunes and I'll explain it all.

WinAmp? HUH? c'mon... 98,745,658,044,972 people can't be wrong! GET iTunes maan!

oooooh, sorry. you got the iPod plugin for WinAmp? damn, you lucky dog you.

UGH..

sorry for the little rant.

Merry Christmas!

oh, btw, I didn't get butt for christmas. yet. (will try and collect gifts tomorrow, haven't seen the fam yet)

Everyone and their second cousins have iPods now. Some people don't even have more than 100 songs to put on it.

I've already gone through 6 iPods though, thanks to the BestBuy warranty. I don't feel that bad about ripping off BestBuy. But the iPod I have right now is the last iPod im going to 'upgrade' using my warranty.

I worked with a woman who bought an iPod, coudn't get it too work and put it in a drawer for 6 months. When she saw mine, she mentioned that it was too hard to set up and blah blah blah blah.

I told her to bring in her iPod and some of her favorite CDs and I would show her how it works. It ended up taking 10 minutes.

I don't get some people. Why pay $300 bucks for something you don't even use? This was a professional graphic designer by the way. A woman who makes her living using a Mac.

Ugh.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

This sounds all too familiar.

The irony is, we got my brother one this year for christmas.. I took a few seconds to explain to him that all he has to do is plug it into firewire, it syncs, or he can charge it either at the computer or on the plug, etc... and off he went.

No questions

Then there was a friend of mine who got a blue mini and asked "How do I ... uh.. go through the menus?"

I suppose someone asking for 20 GBs worth of music is too much then.

well, yea, maybe.

depends.

I gathered this collection of music many years, and I am just to give it to whoever has space for it, or likes my taste? I'll burn them a few CDs, sure. and yea, my best buds have my entire collection basically, and I've got theirs etc.

but oh, you just got an iPod, and want all my tunes?

start rippin' those CDs people.. it's gonna be a long night!

heh, my buddy just called and mentioned he got a iPod. No request for support yet at least, but he's smart enough to read the ****ing manual.

I only got 3 iPod calls yesterday. Must be lucky. Although I did get a few during December.

Hmmmm ... no iPod support calls for me (and believe me, I'd be the guy that'd get the call). When my roommate got his iPod last year though .. it was lots of work getting him set up. 437 albums 5333 songs, 15.5 days of music, collected over 15 or more years of his life.
I calculated a "preferred" bit rate for him based on his library size (192kbps mp3 highest quality .. which has filled up about 31.5 gig of his 37.x gigs ... leaves him a few years to grow and is very high quality).
Helped him install a spare 80gb drive (his older Dell had a single 10gb drive) to store this massive library.
Helped him install a firewire card.
Helped him rip his entire music collection. It literally took a full week of round-the-clock importing. His 800mhz P3 with 128mb ram was EXTREMELY slow at converting the songs, so we'd suck in about 50 or 60 albums at once as aiff and then set it off batch converting to mp3 while he slept and was at work.

On the bright side, this former Mac hater now shows a chink in his Mac hating armor ... I have my old DV iMac as the server on our little home network. It happens to sit beside where he plays his PS2 all the time .. so he listens to his music via iTunes music sharing, listens to his online radio stations in iTunes or WiMP for Mac, surfs the web using Safari, and AIMs via iChat with his FF XI buddies. He spends about 80% of his computing life on that little iMac now

Got my sis a pink iPod for Christmas. She couldn't believe how easy it is to sync up with iTunes on her iBook. Then she says Apple makes really cool stuff and asked if they're a Japanese company.

i took our old 5GB ipod, and gave it to my parents who are using windows.

it didnt come with any windows software in the box, but the CD that came with my 40GB model worked perfectly.

the only weird thing i noticed, is when he (dad) hits the eject button on the tower, it ejects the CD and his ipod. if he clicks just the eject button next to the CD, everything is fine. kinda weird.
